Mr Siegmund, as you have now spoken several times of a ‘historic task’ and described the election as a ‘historic election’. 1932 – 94 years ago, in fact – Alfred Freiberg became the first Minister-President of the NSDAP in Germany, in the Free State of Anhalt.
Is your country simply always destined for historic tasks, as you envisage it?

I’ve just mentioned another historic election in German history. Does that mean anything to you? And, for heaven’s sake, is your country really a political pioneer, as you imagine it to be?

Yes, well, I can decide that for myself, don’t worry, but I don’t know what’s going on in their heads that they’re getting caught up in such strange comparisons, that they’re even researching something like that.
We couldn’t care less about that here in Saxony-Anhalt, you know; in real life, we simply have different problems to those that some left-wingers or extreme journalists, for example – including, it seems, some of them personally – are trying to dictate to us here.
That’s not the problem we’re facing in Sachsand, you know. And the people here made their views very clear yesterday. They put democracy into practice.
Incidentally, we in the AfD have breathed new life into democracy in Saxony-Anhalt. We had the highest turnout in many, many years, and I am therefore very grateful and proud that the people of Saxony-Anhalt refuse to be patronised by people like him.
