A message from Israel's President to the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom - a nation that once stood as one of history's great defenders of freedom and fought the Nazis when Jewish lives were on the line - is planned to announce trade sanctions against the world's only Jewish state.
We are deeply troubled by this decision. Sanctions on Israel do not advance peace. They reward extremism, harm Palestinian workers who depend on cross-border employment, and send a dangerous signal that economic pressure on democracies under attack is acceptable.
President Herzog said it plainly: this is a grave miscalculation that will fall on the wrong side of history. We agree.
Israel is Britain's ally. Israeli intelligence saves British lives. And the Jewish people have known what boycotts lead to - they do not forget, and neither should Britain.
