Australia's peak tourist council backs LGBTIQA+ accreditation scheme to make Brisbane Olympics guests feel more welcome

The Australian Tourism Industry Council has put its weight behind a national-first 'Rainbow Ready' scheme ahead of the 2032 Olympics to recognise businesses that go above and beyond in encouraging diversity.

The Australian Tourism Industry Council has backed plans to make the transgender community and other LGBTQIA+ folk feel welcome to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

The University of Queensland says its researchers have helped launch Australia's first national LGBTQIA+ tourism accreditation to acknowledge businesses who welcome diversity.

Dr Faith Ong from UQ’s Business School has released a heart-shaped rainbow logo that tourist operators are encouraged to use.y

Accommodation houses were warned not to assume that a same-sex couple were platonic friends by offering them separate beds.

Dr Ong said the “Rainbow Ready” accreditation would help the LGBTQIA+ community identify inviting tourism attractions, accommodation, venues and events.
