Lauren Dickason was found guilty in August 2023 of murdering her three young daughters—Liané (6) and twins Maya and Karla (2)—in Timaru, New Zealand. The killings occurred on September 16, 2021, shortly after the family emigrated from South Africa.

Verdict and Sentence: A jury returned a majority verdict of guilty on three counts of murder. In June 2024, she was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment with no minimum term, to be served in a secure forensic mental health unit at Hillmorton Hospital.

The Crime: Dickason smothered the children in their beds after an initial attempt using cable ties failed. She attempted to kill herself but survived.

Current Status: Dickason has been served with a deportation order to be enacted after her sentence is served. She is scheduled to appeal her convictions in early 2027, just before she becomes eligible for parole.
