>Chief Jeff Swoboda scheduled a meeting for December 6, 2022 to fire him. Haferman resigned the night before. The chief went on camera: "This officer let our community down, and that hurts." Then he said there was no evidence of intent.

>Fifteen miles away, Loveland answered criticism by calling the complainants "certain individuals" and defending its officers' probable cause. Loveland paid Elias $400,000 with no admission of wrongdoing.
>Past a Million Dollars
>Two federal judges said the pattern alone should have triggered a review. Fort Collins settled with Jesse Cunningham for $500,000. All told, over a million dollars of public money for DUI arrests of sober people.

>In September 2025, a federal judge ruled for Haferman in the Groves case. Nobody ever charged him with anything. The DA found no dishonesty. Just judgment. Which is exactly why none of this was ever going to end in a charge.
