Directive
In response to President Donald J. Trump’s directive for transparency on U.S. government information regarding Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), the Department of War (DOW), with support from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), is overseeing government wide efforts to expeditiously find, review, identify, declassify and publicly release unresolved UAP-related records and historical documents in the federal government’s possession. This is an unprecedented, historic undertaking that requires coordination between dozens of agencies and the review of tens of millions of records, many existing only on paper, spanning many decades. Given the scope of this task, the Department of War will be releasing new materials on a rolling basis as they are discovered and declassified, with tranches posted every few weeks.
The materials archived here are unresolved cases, meaning the government is unable to make a definitive determination on the nature of the observed phenomena. This can occur for a variety of reasons, including a lack of sufficient data, and the Department of War welcomes the application of private-sector analysis, information and expertise. DOW will continue to conduct separate reporting on resolved UAP cases, as mandated by statute. Under this Administration, we will pursue the truth and share our findings with the American people.

The fellas over at Zero Hedge put up a Tweet last week that floated a wild monetary thought experiment: they said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent could theoretically “buy back” our roughly $40 trillion in U.S. government debt using cash from the Treasury General Account.
There would just be one small detail standing in the way…the government would first have to re-mark its gold reserves to somewhere around $155,000 per ounce.
If you’re not familiar with the concept, it probably sounds outright insane. But the basic idea is actually simple, and once you follow it through to its logical conclusion, things get interesting pretty quickly.
The United States owns roughly 261.5 million ounces of gold, giving it the largest official reserves in the world. Yet the government still carries that gold at a statutory price of just $42.22 per ounce, even though gold trades at about 100x that price.
At $42.22, the government’s entire gold hoard is officially valued at only about $11 billion. In the real world, it’s worth well north of $1 trillion. It’s roughly the equivalent of somebody who bought a Manhattan apartment for $25,000 decades ago insisting that it is still worth $25,000 today because that’s what the original paperwork says.
As a gold bull, naturally, I love the idea of finally marking this gold to market. But the attraction goes well beyond watching the government admit that gold is worth considerably more than $42. Revaluation could once again formally elevate gold’s importance as a monetary asset, something gold investors have been arguing for years could and should happen, while central banks around the world have quietly continued accumulating.

An encrypted Nazi military message sat unread for decades.
GPT-6 Astra helped break it in roughly 10 hours.
The 82-letter German Army transmission was sent on July 10, 1941, while Adolf Hitler’s forces were driving deep into the Soviet Union.
Its contents were not a grand strategy or a secret order from Hitler’s headquarters. They were more immediate: a field message asking for a route of march, reporting a position in Rosenow and demanding an immediate reply by radio.
That modest plaintext had remained hidden behind one of the most notorious encryption systems of World War II.
Carter Leffen, the researcher who directed the project, described what Astra did during the recovery:

The most important detail is that this was not a chatbot making a clever guess and declaring victory.
The MVUEH recovery exhibit and validation record lays out the work in unusually specific terms.
Leffen led the investigation and made the key decisions. Astra and specialist agents searched historical material, compared uncertain letters in two surviving copies, built an Enigma simulator, wrote cryptanalysis code, ran controlled experiments and tested competing settings.
The project did not begin with a blind brute-force attack. The standard machine model left an estimated 159 quintillion daily configurations before other constraints were applied, and early approaches failed.
The team worked across September 14 and 15, using a faint outgoing facsimile, a separately published received transcription and a recorded message header. The two surviving copies disagreed at several positions, so the investigation recorded possible letters before searching instead of changing inconvenient characters after a promising key appeared.
The final reconstruction changed three characters from an earlier native transcription and identified eight differences from the received copy. Every accepted letter came from an alternative that had already been documented, giving reviewers a concrete trail to challenge.
The breakthrough came from a related message.
A previously solved transmission identified as SIPVX included the place name ROSENOW twice in succession. The team treated that 14-letter sequence as a possible “crib” — a suspected piece of plaintext that could be tested against different positions in the encrypted message.
That was a major hint, but it was not the answer.
The crib accounted for only 14 letters. The other 68 letters still had to produce coherent German, and a separately recorded header had to agree with the recovered machine settings.
One candidate survived those tests.
The recovered key used Enigma I with reflector B, rotor order II-V-III, ring settings H-M-F and a body start of R-W-D. The plaintext around the repeated place name formed a connected request for marching instructions and an immediate radio response.
