The Copernican principle, named after Nicolaus Copernicus, originated as a modified cosmological extension of Copernicus' heliocentric Universe. The working assumption is that because neither the Sun nor the Earth are in a central, specially favored position in the Universe, humans are not privileged observers of the Universe and therefore, are of little significance or value. The entire assumption rests on the testable hypothesis that our solar system is NOT in a central position, but rather simply part of a “random” distribution within the Universe. Three prospective scientific studies, each one more powerful in scope than the last, now provide very strong empirical evidence for us the reject the null hypothesis. Thus, the available scientific evidence suggests that we are privileged observers in a solar system that is not part of a “random” distribution. Furthermore, there is little reason to believe that we evolved or were created in the image of an egg head man.
