IDF kills terrorist, thwarts attempted car-ramming attack against soldiers at West Bank checkpoint

IDF troops and Border Police officers are currently operating at the scene and have arrested a second terrorist.
The IDF thwarted a car-ramming attack against soldiers stationed at a West Bank checkpoint near Jenin on Sunday, ahead of the Yom Kippur holiday.
No injuries were reported, the military said.
In the incident, which took place in the Ganim area of the Menashe Brigade's sector of the northern West Bank, the military said it had killed one terrorist and arrested a second who had attempted to run over soldiers at the checkpoint.
IDF troops and Border Police officers are operating at the scene.
Ganim was re-established by settler families in August, 21 years after Israel withdrew its citizens from the area under the 2005 disengagement plan overseen by former prime minister Ariel Sharon.
Attack comes an hour after drive-by shooting terror attack kills one
The attempted ramming attack comes an hour after one person was killed in a drive-by shooting terror attack took place at a spring near Neveh Tzuf.
According to initial reports, the terrorist opened fire at Israelis bathing in a nearby spring from what appears to be a red Mitsubishi SUV with Palestinian Authority license plates. He then exited the vehicle armed and fled the scene on foot.
He was evacuated by helicopter to Rabin Medical Center-Beilinson Campus in Petah Tikva, before succumbing to his wounds.
A manhunt for the terrorist is underway.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir conducted a situational assessment and ordered the deployment of additional security forces to the sector to aid in a manhunt.

UFO files: Avi Loeb puzzled by unusual objects in sightings being soundless

Harvard University theoretical physicist Avi Loeb says the Pentagon’s latest batch of UFO files is particularly perplexing because of one specific detail.
“What was most puzzling based on the new information is that these objects were moving up to five times the speed of sound, but not making any sound,” Loeb told “NewsNation Prime.”
Friday’s drop included declassified documents, plus an audio recording and transcript of a Project Blue Book presentation given in March 1952 by Capt. Edward J. Ruppelt, which Congressman Eric Burlison, R-Mo., had been pushing to have released.
Ruppelt explains that 20% of the 800 UFO reports the Air Force was investigating were still unidentified.
He also noted certain concentrations of sightings, some around U.S. ports as well as around White Sands, a hub for missile testing, like Los Alamos and Camp Hood in Texas.
The disclosure marked the sixth release under President Donald Trump’s administration in an effort to make records about UFOs public.

Loeb also spotlighted another report in the files, which addressed video footage from an infrared sensor aboard a U.S. military platform over the Middle East last year.
The footage showed six small spherical objects that are grouped and are moving at 480 miles per hour, 63% of the speed of sound.
“There aren’t any drones that can move that fast, not to speak about the fact that usually formation or clusters of drones move much slower, because otherwise they are at risk of colliding with each other,” he said.
The video also left Loeb with questions because the cluster of drones “can’t really communicate fast enough to move together at that speed,” he said.
“So that is extremely puzzling. Unless the Chinese have some drone technology we’re not aware of. At the very least, we’re dealing with a national security item of great importance.”

What might alien life have in common with us? Oxford researchers used evolutionary theory to make some predictions. Here’s a look at what they suggest.
Guessing at life we've never seen
Scientists from around the world have long wondered what alien life might actually look like.
In popular shows and movies, we’ve often seen extraterrestrial life as ‘little green men,' and scientists have even suggested that they might look purple instead.
But what might they actually look like? Now, researchers from Oxford University have used evolutionary theory to answer this question. Here’s what their research suggests.
What might alien life look like?
Earlier studies on alien life leaned mostly on what we see on Earth, along with what we know about chemistry, geology, and physics.
But this time, the Oxford team took a different route. They relied on evolutionary theory, which includes natural selection. It’s a process by which living things become fitter and stronger over time.
Sam Levin, a researcher in Oxford's Department of Zoology, noted, "In our paper, we offer an alternative approach, which is to use evolutionary theory to make predictions that are independent of Earth's details."
Their paper has been published in the International Journal of Astrobiology.
Could life evolve without DNA?
Researchers have only one example of life, life on Earth, to work from. And Levin said the evolutionary approach avoids that problem.
He added, "This is a useful approach, because theoretical predictions will apply to aliens that are silicon-based, do not have DNA, and breathe nitrogen, for example."
He shared that these predictions would also hold even if alien life is formed from different material than we are.
What if alien life evolved in a way similar to us?
On our planet, life can become more complex, and this happens due to events called major transitions.
This happens when separate organisms come together and form something new that works at a higher level of complexity. One example of this is single cells that merged into multicellular life roughly 600 million years ago.
And if alien life went through similar transitions, then it should share a basic structure with us. Levin explained, "Like humans, we predict that they are made-up of a hierarchy of entities, which all cooperate to produce an alien."
What the theory can't tell us
Commenting on the scope of this research, Sam Levin noted, ‘We still can't say whether aliens will walk on two legs or have big green eyes.
But we believe evolutionary theory offers a unique additional tool for trying to understand what aliens will be like, and we have shown some examples of the kinds of strong predictions we can make with it.”

David Grusch and two other UFO whistleblowers are asking Trump to let them tell the public what they know, and his current waiver won’t allow it

David Grusch, Dylan Borland, and Matthew Brown are leading an unprecedented coalition to petition President Trump for a formal waiver of their government nondisclosure agreements.
These individuals claim they possess critical information regarding extraterrestrial life but are currently barred by law from sharing their experiences with the American public.
As reported by the NY Post, the group is now making a direct, public request for the president to grant them immunity and authorization to speak freely about classified programs.
Filmmaker and disclosure advocate James Fox has been coordinating this effort.
He noted that this is a unique moment in history where whistleblowers are making a public plea rather than working through private channels.
According to Fox, the president has the authority to provide this protection with the stroke of a pen. He emphasized that these are heavyweight individuals who are willing to reveal what they know if they are granted the necessary legal cover.
The current system does not permit public disclosure of classified information
The current legal landscape remains a significant hurdle for those involved.
While the administration recently announced a new legal waiver, it only allows personnel to report UFO and alien-related information to the federal government via the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters.
This system does not permit the public disclosure of classified information. Because of this limitation, the whistleblowers feel they cannot fulfill their goal of informing the public without direct intervention from the White House.
Matthew Brown, who previously worked as an independent contractor for the defense industry, discussed the gravity of these agreements on the Weaponized Podcast in early 2026.
He reportedly revealed details about a secret government program known as Immaculate Constellation, which is allegedly responsible for collecting UFO data from across the government.
Brown stated, “The NDAs I signed prohibit me from publicly disclosing classified information obtained through my national security work without prior written government authorization, and that obligation lasts for life.”
He believes the president has a unique opportunity to lead humanity into a new era of discovery by confirming that we are not alone.
David Grusch, an Air Force officer who served as an intelligence officer at the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and the National Reconnaissance Office, provided testimony to Congress in 2023 regarding secret UFO crash retrieval programs.
Grusch has described the evidence he has personally reviewed as jaw-dropping.
He stated, “This included photographs and video of the [recovery] operations including the craft and the non-human occupants.
And I’ve seen this evidence with my own two eyes.” In a video released by Fox, Grusch addressed the president directly, saying, “Mr. President, give us the authorization and we’re ready to go.”
Dylan Borland, an Air Force veteran, also reportedly provided testimony to Congress in 2024. He described witnessing a massive triangular UFO hovering over a NASA hangar before it maneuvered away at high speed.
Borland is seeking the same presidential approval to share corroborating classified evidence. He told the press that the president needs to rip the band-aid off and confirm the recovery of materials and non-human biologics.
Support for this group has come from members of Congress who view this potential disclosure as a significant step toward transparency.
Representative Eric Burlison has praised the administration for its willingness to release documents, noting that even single documents from recent tranches would have been considered monumental in the past.
Meanwhile, Representative Anna Paulina Luna has focused her efforts on the House Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets to ensure whistleblowers feel protected from retribution.

New Video: From a 1952 Utah Swarm to 2025 Orbs Over the Middle East
Visually, the standout is Kodachrome footage filmed near Tremonton, Utah, showing a cluster of objects moving in formation, according to LiveNOW from FOX.
More recent material includes a brief infrared clip, just 59 seconds long, filmed over the East China Sea during 2023 and passed to investigators by the Indo-Pacific Command, along with footage of small metallic spheres moving in formation at roughly 480 miles per hour — about 770 kilometers per hour — over the Middle East in 2025.
What Investigators Say They Haven't Found
The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office maintains that small metallic orbs remain the most frequently reported type of UAP and that no case it has reviewed shows verifiable evidence of extraterrestrial technology, though the agency says many files remain open.
Friday's batch is the sixth published under the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, or PURSUE, following earlier releases on May 8, May 22, June 12, July 10 and August 7, drawing on material from the Department of War, the FBI, the CIA, the State Department and the White House, per the department's own official release.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the effort is "in lockstep with President Trump to bring unprecedented transparency" and framed decades of classification as fuel for public speculation.
What Comes Next
Officials say additional batches will keep arriving on a rolling basis.
With the Ruppelt tape now out, Burlison and other lawmakers are shifting pressure toward other contractor-held recordings and historical files they say remain locked away.

Australia's vast Nullarbor Plain hides deep caves that can teach us about alien worlds

Stretching more than 200,000 square kilometers (77,000 square miles) across southern Australia, the vast, flat plains of the Nullarbor mark one of the world's largest regions of limestone.
It formed when an ancient shallow sea retreated some 14 million years ago.
Ultimately, this led to the familiar dry landscape of today, which has acted as a significant barrier for plants, animals and poorly adapted colonial Victorian-era explorers who described it as "the sort of place one gets into in bad dreams."
In contrast, the Mirning People of the Nullarbor and Great Australian Bight have lived for tens of thousands of years on this southern margin. They have watched the landscapes change and sea levels fall and rise with the buildup and collapse of the last ice age, about 20,000 years ago.
To the untrained eye, the Nullarbor Plain appears deceptively simple and featureless. However, beneath the immense plain lies a remarkable, largely hidden underground world.
Over millions of years, water has eaten away at the limestone and created complex cave networks that can extend for kilometers underground. Sadly, the caves remain poorly understood, partly because they're only really known and accessible where they breach the surface.
Our new study, published in Communications Earth & Environment, reveals a new way to track these cave systems even when they are deeply buried.
Our work helps explain the formation of previously mysterious, shallow trench features on the Nullarbor. It also provides a new way to identify hidden caves elsewhere—even beyond our own planet.
Valleys, but not from rivers
Scattered across the Nullarbor are telltale signs of its vulnerability to being dissolved—small cave openings and shallow depressions.
But there are also structures of previously unknown origin and significance: long (up to 20 km [12 miles]), shallow (a few meters) trenches that trend roughly north-south. They're almost invisible from the ground, but we can clearly see them in modern digital landscape models.
These shallow trenches look somewhat like flat-bottomed valleys, but they were not carved by rivers. They begin and end abruptly and are not connected to existing rivers or drainage networks that extend into the upland areas around the Nullarbor.
They also lack typical river branching patterns, and the sediments within them don't show any evidence of being deposited from flowing water.

What we discovered
To understand how these strange structures formed, we combined several investigative techniques.
First, we mapped the trenches using drone and aerial photography, as well as detailed satellite-based digital landscape models. Then, the layers of soil and rock were measured in boreholes and caves.
Finally, we used specialized geophysical techniques to "see" inside the Earth, somewhat similar to the way an X-ray enables us to see our internal body structures from the outside.
Our work demonstrated that the shallow surface trenches sit above deep zones of broken rock and, in places, line up with known cave systems and sinkholes.
This means the trenches are merely muted surface expressions of deeply buried cave systems. These systems are slowly, over millions of years, "collapsing upwards" through the overlying rock layers to reach the surface.
Caves are scientific archives
The results of this work will change how scientists interpret cave landscapes globally. They show that to explain the surface structures we see, we must look deeper than we might think.
Understanding where voids may exist underground can be important for planning both surface (buildings, roads) and subsurface (tunnels, sewers) engineering works, mitigating geological hazards and accessing and protecting groundwater resources.
Pockmarked karst landscapes (where rocks are dissolved by water, resulting in caves and sinkholes) represent 15% of the ice-free Earth's surface and supply water to 10–25% of the global population.
More fundamentally, caves are important scientific archives. Because caves are sheltered from surface weathering and erosion processes, they can preserve snapshots of ancient environments and ecosystems that would otherwise be lost to time.
Furthermore, they may host an array of strange and vulnerable life forms that have evolved and adapted in isolation. These are some of the least studied organisms on Earth.
To learn more, we must first locate the cave structures. And the results of our study could be very important in this regard.
Caves on other worlds
The implications of this new work even extend beyond our own planet. Because caves offer a stable environment and shelter from damaging space radiation, they provide promising exploration sites for life on other planets.
Mapping of planetary surfaces within our solar system has identified numerous potential caves, including some thought to be related to karst on Mars.
The Nullarbor's dry, stable surface is an excellent analogue to help locate the subtle surface fingerprints of hidden cave systems on planets that now lack a dynamic water cycle—such as Mars.
Even if the caves are barren of life, they could be attractive bases for future human explorers.
How many other apparently simple landscapes around the world or on other planets are concealing large cave systems underneath?
We don't yet know, but the trenches we studied are unlikely to be unique. Similar subtle landforms are likely to have been overlooked elsewhere, too.
Sometimes the most remarkable discoveries await us in understated landscapes, in plain view, that we think we already understand.
