The green glow in the 1981 animated film Heavy Metal was produced by the Loc-Nar (sometimes spelled Loknar).
The Loc-Nar is an ancient, sentient crystalline sphere from deep space. It serves as the primary antagonist and the overarching framing device that connects all the different stories in the film. It defines itself to a young girl as "the sum of all evils" in the universe, using its radioactive-looking, sickly green glow to corrupt minds, induce insatiable greed, reanimate the dead, and vaporize those who touch it.
