Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s media appearances in Iran are tightly controlled affairs.

But on Thursday he sat down to face questions from a group of journalists in New York, where despite being the leader of a country at war with the United States,he is visiting with the protection of the U.S. Secret Service.

In the wide-ranging session, a day after addressing the UN General Assembly, Pezeshkian repeated familiar Iranian positions on the war, its nuclear program and dissent in Iran. He also talked about the effect of sanctions on the Iranian people,and claimed Iran would never try to kill Donald Trump– despite the U.S. president and U.S. authorities accusing the regime of plotting his assassination.

The comments were made at the Millennium Hilton hotel, a stone’s throw from the UN headquarters where the Iranian president declared Wednesday that his country “will not bow down” as the war with the U.S. drags on.In the briefing, Pezeshkian also described recent meetings he had held with Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not been seen in public since the outset of the war, saying that the leader was “quite healthy.”

There has been mounting speculation in recent months over Khamenei’s health, after he was understood to have sustained serious injuries in the U.S.-Israeli attack that killed his father and predecessor Ali Khamenei at the beginning of the conflict in February.

Speaking about Khamenei’s condition, Pezeshkian said, “I did not see any major challenges with his health or physical appearance,” adding that their most recent in-person meeting had taken place around one month ago and lasted around seven hours.

Pezeshkian said the pair had sat on pillows on the ground and stood up to walk around during the meeting. U.S. intelligence assesses that despite his injuries Khamenei is still playing a critical role in shaping war strategy alongside senior Iranian officials, multiple sources familiar with the intelligence said in May.

A meeting in Manhattan

The presence of Iran’s delegation in a country with which it remains at war is already virtually unprecedented.

But this spectacle became increasingly unconventional on Thursday when the Iranian president and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi briefed reporters including from CNN in a hotel function room in Midtown Manhattan.

A U.S. State Department official said earlier this week that the visiting Iranian delegates were “being admitted to the United States strictly for the purpose of representing the Islamic Republic of Iran before the United Nations” and that they must “restrict their activities to United Nations-related business only.

“The Iranians “must seek and receive approval in advance” from the U.S. State Department if they want to travel outside the vicinity of the UN headquarters, John F. Kennedy International Airport or Iran’s UN mission facilities, the official said.

In the briefing,Pezeshkian denied accusations that Iran was trying to kill the president, saying it has “never been the position (of the Iranian government), overtly or covertly, to seek to assassinate Trump or his family members.

”Last month, the U.S. Secret Service said it was aware of a video aired by Iran’s state broadcaster appearing to threaten the life of Barron Trump, the president’s youngest son.

This came after Israel shared intelligence with the U.S. that Iran had devised a plan to assassinate Donald Trump.

In late 2024, the U.S. Justice Department announced federal charges over what it described as a thwarted Iranian plot to kill Trump before the presidential election.

Hard-line Iranian media have repeatedly featured content threatening the life of Trump and his family. During funeral events for the late Khamenei in July, regime loyalists were seen holding posters with the words “Kill Trump.”

Trump has publicly discussed the Iranian threats on his life too, saying in July: “I’m on whatever list … so far, I guess I’ve been a bit lucky, but maybe that doesn’t last very long. These are evil, sick people.

”In response to Pezeshkian’s comments, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said, “The Iranian regime has murdered thousands of its own people, killed Americans overseas, executed acts of terrorism in the Strait of Hormuz, and launched indiscriminate attacks against its neighbors in the region.”

“The president is courageously ensuring that such an evil country never possesses a nuclear weapon, which will make the entire world safer and more stable,” Kelly said.

‘We have problems’

Pezeshkian also discussed the domestic challenges facing Iran. U.S. sanctions and the ongoing war have suffocated the country’s economy, sparking prices increases and shortages of basic necessities.

The Iranian president also said in the session that Iran wants a deal, but that any agreement was not related to the timing of the U.S. midterms.

Separately, also on Thursday, Araghchi said Iran had presented a proposal to the U.S. that — according to Iran — would re-open the Strait of Hormuz and restart negotiations toward a “final deal.

“The proposal, presented to the U.S. through mediators this week, calls for the U.S. to meet certain conditions within seven days to restart the talks and re-open the strait, Araghchi said.

The foreign minister declined to elaborate on the conditions but said that they were “nothing more” than what was included in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

That agreement, which was reached by the two countries in June, included provisions on sanctions relief; the release of frozen assets; and a cessation of military operations, including in Lebanon.

In response to Araghchi’s comments, a White House official told CNN they were having “positive and constructive discussions through the mediators.

.”Iran’s economy was in a dire state even before the war began, with the poor conditions a key driving factor behind the anti-regime demonstrations which kicked off in the Iranian capital city Tehran in 2025.

“We have problems. Unprecedentedly difficult problems,” Pezeshkian told reporters Thursday, while referring to U.S. sanctions as a “silent murderous campaign.

”Much like in his Wednesday address to world leaders, Pezeshkian appeared confident in the briefing that Iran would prevail despite the challenges facing his country. He also insisted that U.S. bases in the region were legitimate targets as they had been used to attack Iran.

“Most of the American bases in the region are no longer useable,” he claimed.

Iranian strikes damaged and destroyed hundreds of buildings and structures at U.S. bases across the Middle East region during the war’s first months, according to an official Pentagon watchdog report released earlier this month.

“Of course, the U.S. has the power to destroy anything anywhere, but it is impossible to bring about Iranian surrender,” Pezeshkian said.

Agents involved in Mar-a-Lago search ask Judge Aileen Cannon whether gag order blocks testimony

FBI agents who probed Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago homeasked Judge Aileen Cannon on Thursday whether they could testify before a grand jury — or even consult their lawyers — as part of an investigation into whether former government officials conspired against the president.

According to the filing, the current and former agents were subpoenaed to testify abouttheir work in the the sweeping South Florida investigation into whether federal officials who criminally investigated Trump participated in a coordinated effort to deprive him of his rights.

But the agents said they were unsure what they could disclose because Cannon restricted disclosure of special counsel Jack Smith’s report and non-public information associated with it.

The former agents describe being in a bind. If the agents share information that Cannon has prohibited from disclosure, they risk being held in contempt of that order, according to the filing. But they could also find themselves in legal trouble for not providing information that the grand jury is requesting, their attorneys said.

The agents’ filing adds to the uncertainty surrounding the “grand conspiracy” investigation, one of the president’s top priorities at the Justice Department.

CNN has reached out to the Justice Department for comment.

Earlier this month, Joe diGenova, the attorney who oversaw the probe, resigned after clashing with senior department officials over its pace, CNN reported. His departure surprised officials who had expected charges within weeks, according to people familiar with the matter.

Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter and Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General Aakash Singh last week traveled to Florida for a meeting scheduled before diGenova’s resignation, two of the sources said.Instead, after his resignation, they met with US Attorney Jason Reding Quiñones and his deputy, Yara Klukas, to discuss the investigation’s future.

The meeting produced few answers, the people said. Quiñones and Klukas would oversee the probe for now, they agreed, with assistance from McCotter and Singh in Washington, the sources said. The prosecution team continues to pursue possible individual cases against Trump political critics, sources told CNN, though charges in the immediate future were very unlikely, the officials agreed during the Florida meeting.

Still, investigators have sent grand jury subpoenas to multiple officials involved in past investigations of the president, including the agents on the Mar-a-Lago case. Former CIA Director John Brennan also received a subpoena to testify as part of the probe, his lawyers have said.

And a former supervisor in the FBI’s Russia 2016 election interference investigation recently sat for an interview with investigators, CNN previously reported. That person was given immunity by prosecutors.

Trump Immigration Crackdown Pushing Illegal Aliens Out U.S. Banking System

The number of non-citizens engaged in the U.S. banking system has fallen sharply amid the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal migrants.

Immigrants have been closing bank accounts and going back to keep cash in their homes, according to a report by Bloomberg.

Migrants are also taking out fewer loans, the news organization added. Consumer loans to illegal aliens fell by 70 percent since 2024. And lenders are beginning to shy away from entering into such deals to begin with.

“We’ve seen a reduction overall in people who come for financial services, education services, workforce development,” said Hispanic rights activist Erica Serna, the associate director of financial empowerment for UnidosUS. She added that the current atmosphere is “truly frightening for families.”

Serna’s sentiment was echoed by the Biden administration when, in 2023, Biden’s federal regime began threatening banks with costly federal investigations if they did not grant risky loans to illegal migrants.

At the time, Biden warned the banking industry that “denying someone access to credit based solely on their actual or perceived immigrant status may violate federal law.”

But the lenient banking schemes are frowned upon by the Trump administration. Indeed, Trump signed an executive order in May directing federal authorities to make sure financial institutions pay closer attention to the residency status of potential and current clients.

With more than a million deported since Trump came back to Washington and work permits being cancelled all across the country,banks are finding the atmosphere far less clear for dealings with illegal aliens.

With the executive order, the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) has balked at the new requirements and told members to “avoid information collection requirements that impose substantial burdens on community banks, undermine their ability to meet the needs of local communities, and drive American citizens out of the regulated banking system.”

Despite the ICBA’s pushback, theTreasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network has warnedbanks to make sure that clients are depositing money earned legally with legal work permits.

Consequently, loans issued to those without suitable credit scores over the last few months have cratered.

“Across all asset classes, the share of loans to people without credit scores fell more than 70% from 2024 to 2025 and another 40% in 2026,” Bloomberg reported. The site further added that lending for auto loans and credit cards for those with low or non-existent credit scores is “expected to be about $7.2 billion in 2026, down from about $37 billion in 2024.”

While these metrics are not a perfect match for the population of illegal migrants, it is a fairly good indicator, Bloomberg says.

“It is the segment with the largest concentration of undocumented borrowers,” said Vadim Verkhoglyad, head of research at dv01, who wrote in the report cited by Bloomberg. “The timing suggests lenders may be reducing exposure to these borrowers amid changes to the political and policy environment.”

Another migrant activist, immigration lawyer Jennifer Oltarsh, said her clients are more fearful than ever.

“My clients are afraid, so they’re pulling their money out of banks,” she said. “They’re holding it in their mattresses.”

Obama Claims Government Less Corrupt Than Ever as Democrats Run on Issue

Former President Barack Obama claimed Thursday that Washington runs cleaner now than through most of its past, pointing to a collapse in bribes, patronage, and favor-trading.

The former president made the argument in the third episode of A Great Book with Barack Obama, a six-episode series that premiered Thursday on Amazon’s Audible, Axios reported. The episode pairs Obama with Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Jill Lepore for a discussion of Robert Penn Warren’s 1946 novel All the King’s Men.

Obama suggested the assessment catches listeners off guard.

“People are always surprised when I tell them the federal government is so much less corrupt than probably it’s ever been, in terms of just pure bribes or patronage or favors,” he said.

The 44th president argued that the reforms behind that decline also stripped lawmakers of tools they once used to assemble coalitions. He pointed to the Lyndon B. Johnson era, claiming reforms passed on either side of Watergate wiped out most of what party bosses once used to swap favors for votes.

He described the loss in mechanical terms.

“It’s part of the reason why things got a little harder to get done because that was sort of some lubrication … to help to bridge some of the ideological differences that were out there,” Obama said.

A record 89 percent of U.S. adults told Gallup that government corruption is widespread, according to results released Sept. 2. That figure climbed ten points from last year and sits well past the 72 to 79 percent range recorded between 2010 and 2025. Among Democrats, it reached 91 percent, up from 57 percent in former President Joe Biden’s final year in office. Republicans registered 83 percent.

Democrat officials have spent the month pressing the issue. Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL) claimed on ABC’s This Week that President Donald Trump’s presidency is “the most corrupt presidency that we’ve seen in our lifetimes, maybe ever in the United States.”

“So that is one of the things that I think Democrats can run on in ’26,” the Illinois Democrat added.

Corruption ads are running in more than a dozen House races and in nearly every competitive Senate state, the Washington Sun reported. Republican pollster Robert Blizzard said frustration with politics-as-usual is “at a fever pitch.”

Obama has been shaping his party’s midterm message directly. At a private fundraiser this month, he urged House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to put artificial intelligence oversight at the center of the Democrat agenda.

Iran’s Terrorist ‘Hardliners’ Complain as Foreign Minister Meets Trump Envoy

Iranian hardliners reportedly wrote furious social media postsafter White House Special Rep. Steve Witkoff met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday, with some calling for both Araghchi and President Masoud Pezeshkian to be removed from office.

Curiously, the military junta that effectively rules Iran, led byits notorious Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), seemed to tacitly endorse diplomatic contacts. One IRGC spokesman told state media that negotiations are “another facet of war.”

Once the meeting between Araghchi and Witkoff actually occurred, the response from hardline Iranian social media was much more hostile, as Radio Free Europe (RFE) reported on Wednesday:

Some called for impeachment proceedings to be launched though they were not clear if they wanted Araqchi or Pezeshkian out of office. One user charged that the meeting was “an even bigger mistake” than Pezeshkian traveling to the US for the UN General Assembly.

“If anyone’s met and negotiated with the Americans, they better stay there. [Iran] is a country for honorable people,” wrote Vahid Azizi, an economist and former official at the Iranian National Tax Administration under hard-line late president Ebrahim Raisi.

Hard-line commentator Mohsen Maqsudi said it was “sheer stupidity” to negotiate with Washington while “under threat” and cause a drop in oil prices. Tehran has been hoping that the rise in fuel costs will pressure Trump into ending the war.

Hardline parliamentarian Ebrahim Rezaei demanded to know under whose authority Araghchi met with “the representative of an aggressor enemy.”

Iran’s state-run Tasnim News Agency called Araghchi’s meeting with Witkoff “absurd” because Tehran has already made its non-negotiable demands for halting its terror attacks in the Strait of Hormuz clear. Another state news agency, Fars, castigated Araghchi for potentially bungling the strategy of rising oil prices that seemed on the verge of delivering the U.S. Congress to Trump’s adversaries.

Pezeshkian himself was combative in his U.N. General Assembly (UNGA) address on Wednesday, railing against the U.S. and Israel for “terrorism” and “war crimes.” As the hardliners demanded, Pezeshkian brought up the bombing of a girls’ school in February, which Iran claims was a deliberate attack on civilians by the United States.

The exchange between Witkoff and Araghchi that inflamed the hardliners was an “indirect” communication, meaning they sent messages through mediators from Qatar rather than speaking directly. The talks reportedly lasted about three hours.

Both Witkoff and Trump said they were satisfied with the talks, which were the first diplomatic exchange between the U.S. and Iran since the memorandum of understanding that was intended to reopen the Strait of Hormuz was negotiated in June.

Trump said the meeting was “very good” and could help to “get this thing ended.”

“I think there’s a lot of momentum for them to make a deal,” the president said.

“I don’t want to mischaracterize this as a major breakthrough. But at the same time, I think it was significant that at least there was a conversation,”Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, with a bit less optimism than Trump and Witkoff.

Rubio said that one reason for his skepticism was his doubt that Araghchi and Pezeshkina could get the IRGC and hardline politicians to go along with any peace deal that would be acceptable to the United States.

“The ultimate decision-making in Iran lies in the hands of people that are strong believers in the Iranian revolution. And that makes interactions problematic,” Rubio said.

Iranian President Pezeshkian: ‘We Will Keep Resisting — We Will Find Ways’

During an interview that aired on Thursday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed his country would continue to resist the U.S. military strikes and other actions aimed at his country.

He also dismissed claims that Iran’s actions were based on the U.S. election calendar.

Partial transcript as follows:

BAIER: I just have a couple of other questions. One, in March, you warned that without a cease-fire, the Iranian economy could collapse. That was back in March. It could collapse within three weeks to a month. You warned without a cease-fire the economy could collapse within three weeks to a month. That was six months ago. Your own statistics agency says the Iranian economy shank 10 percent. Inflation is skyrocketing. The rial has lost more than half of its value in a year. Oil loadings fell from 2 million barrels a day to about 250,000 barrels.

So in that environment, how long can Iran last?

PEZESHKIAN (through translator): This is something that has been the doing of the United States. We will keep resisting. We will find ways, and the life of our country will continue. We will remain. And Trump kept saying, I want to bring a gift to the people of Iran, but the gift that they brought us were guided missiles, heavy weapons, and destruction. What they truly wish to do is to instigate incidents in the country that paves the way for the downfall of the system of the society, of the government.

BAIER: So were you wrong in March about the time frame or is the economy collapsing now?

PEZESHKIAN (through translator): We will keep resisting until the very end. Yes, we do have economic issues, certainly. But in order to remain, we will go through any hardship and endure. If America thinks that they can keep sanctioning us…

BAIER: How much of your decisions…

PEZESHKIAN (through translator): … that will we surrender…

BAIER: … affected by the…

PEZESHKIAN (through translator): … they can take that into their dreams.

BAIER: … U.S. midterm elections?

PEZESHKIAN (through translator): We have nothing to do nor do we consider any type of American elections. If the current American government, within international legal framework, wishes to reach an agreement, fine. If not, before the elections or after the elections, what difference does it make for us?

BAIER: Do you think the war can come to an end before the end of the year?

PEZESHKIAN (through translator): We do not wish to fight at all. But we will stand resolutely to defend ourselves. We never sought war. We do not seek war. I deeply believe that humans should not cause the death of another human. We are supposed to be the chosen beings of creation. When we can resolve issues through dialogue, we shouldn’t resort to killing one another. But with instigations conducted by Israel, they have imposed this war on us. But we do not wish to continue. It’s America that must choose whether it wants to end this or not.

NATO Sec’y General: Europe Shutting Down Refineries ‘a Big Worry’ for Defense

During an interview with Bloomberg on Thursday, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that Europe not building refineries and closing them down creates a vulnerability because if Russia attacked a NATO nation, there would be a large need for oil products, “and that is a big worry.”

While discussing the prospect of a diesel export ban by the United States, Rutte said that he wouldn’t comment on the E.U.’s issues because it isn’t helpful if he does so.

Bloomberg Television Chief Political Correspondent and co-host Annmarie Hordern then said, “If you don’t have diesel, though, that could be a problem for NATO.”

Rutte responded, “Yeah. But there’s also another issue, which I can talk about, and that is the refining capacity in Europe itself. What we are seeing is no new refineries being built in Europe. We are seeing that refineries are being closed down. And if war breaks out, if the Russians would attack and we have to defend ourselves, we need massive amounts of diesel and other oil products for our F-35s, our fighter jets, for our tanks, etc., and that is a big worry.But, of course, that is not directly linked now to whatever is playing out between the E.U. and the U.S.”

White House Honors Archbishop Fulton Sheen on Day of His Beatification

The White House honored Catholic Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen on the day ofhis beatification, which puts him one step closer to being canonized a saint.

A statement shared to the official White House website on September 24 championed the American archbishop as a manwho “pioneered the use of media to speak the truth, preach the Gospel, and bring many souls closer to Christ.”

“On his show, Archbishop Sheen lectured before a live audience on an array of theological, philosophical, and political topics,” the statement said. “Dressed in striking priestly robes and armed with only a chalk stick and blackboard, he quickly emerged as a primetime sensation — boldly bringing the teachings of Christianity to a world threatened by the titanic forces of communism.”

“Archbishop Sheen shocked the entertainment industry by besting American legendslike Milton Berle and Frank Sinatra in weekly ratings, winning an Emmy award for Most Outstanding Television Personality, and appearing on the cover of Time magazine,” it continued. “For years, his sharp wit and piercing intellect filled millions of American living rooms and converted thousands — including national politicians, Hollywood celebrities, and communist leaders — to the Catholic faith.”

Sheen’s mainstreaming of Catholicism to the American masses during a time of intense anti-Catholic tribalism has also been credited by some experts with setting the stage for President John F. Kennedy, the first Catholic president.

Sheen’s beatification ceremony was hosted in St. Louis, Missouri, on Thursday. According to the Associated Press, the ceremony was held in the Dome at America’s Center because “there wasn’t a venue large enough in his home Diocese of Peoria, Illinois, to accommodate the anticipated crowd.”

Bud Light Responds After NFL Fines 49ers’ Kyle Juszczyk for ‘Beer-Chug’ Celebration

Bud Light spoke up after the NFL fined San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk $14,926 for a touchdown celebration the league said looked like he was chugging a beer.

The exchange started with a gesture Juszczyk made after scoring against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. He tilted his head back and raised his hand to his mouth as though drinking. The NFL took it as an imitation of chugging beer and fined him for an offensive demonstration. San Francisco won the game 35-13.

“Your imitation of chugging a beer constituted an offensive demonstration and could reasonably be construed as being in poor taste,” the league saidin its fine letter.

Juszczyk says the NFL got the drink wrong. His nickname is “Juice,” and he says the celebration is meant to show him drinking juice. He has used the gesture for years, including in a 2021 clip he shared after learning of the fine. This was the first time the league had fined him for it.

“I wasn’t drinking beer in my celebration,” Juszczyk told reporters Thursday. He pointed to the juice box on his thigh pad andsaid fans yell “Juice” when he catches the ball. For the interview at his locker, he also put out a jug labeled “Not Beer.”

Kittle backed up his teammate on X, writing, “Can confirm he doesn’t really drink beer but is a good guy.”

WATCH: Trump Hosts Xi in Pomp-Filled Ceremony

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House on Thursday in a pomp-filled ceremony, followed by an extended meeting between the presidents away from reporters.

There were countless reporters, photographers, and videographers at the White House for the state visit, and tensions flared among Chinese press and a White House photographer on the South Lawn over positioning to capture images of the two presidents.

The visit began with a welcome ceremony on the South Lawn, where Trump and first lady Melania Trump greeted Xi and Madam Liyuan Peng.

Moments later, Trump and Xi delivered remarks in the Grand Foyer. The president said the two would discuss security, technology, and artificial intelligence, and spoke of the friendship he and Xi have forged as “built on mutual respect and the vital interests of our people.”

Trump also noted that the Board of Trade the two countries established in May is “working to encourage a more balanced trading relationship.”

Xi spoke after Trump and, at one point, focused on artificial intelligence (AI). The United States and China are the leading countries on AI, and much has been made of the “AI arms race” between the countries.

“Both China and the United States are leading nations in artificial intelligence. We have both the capability and responsibility to develop and manage AI for good, and ensure that the development of AI is always under human control and serves the well-being of the people,” Xi said.

Later in the festivities, they took part in a military review in the Rose Garden, where the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps performed and Marines put on a mesmerizing drill demonstration. The ceremony also featured a military flyover of a B-2 bomber accompanied by four F-22 Raptors.

After the ceremony, Trump and Xi met privately, and then Trump gave him a tour of the new helipad and Marine One on the South Lawn.

At one point, Trump also showed Xi the presidential portraits lining the West Wing colonnade, and Xi laughed upon seeing an auto-pen in place of former President Joe Biden’s picture.

Later Friday, Trump will host Xi for a state dinner that several tech and AI executives, including OpenAI’s Sam Altman, xAI’s Elon Musk, and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, are expected to attend.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu predicted the fall of Iran’s “evil regime” in a fiery address to the United Nations on Thursday, declaring that the Iranian people will ultimately rise against their rulers as he vowed Israel will continue to prevail against enemies seeking its destruction.

“This evil regime will fall, and we will all celebrate that day,” Netanyahu told the U.N. General Assembly in New York.

Netanyahu delivered the prediction after holding up a Starlink satellite internet terminal from the podium, presenting it as a weapon against the Iranian regime’s efforts to censor its own people.

“This is a communications device, Starlink, that allows people to access truth, to exercise choice, to exercise freedom of thought and freedom of speech,” Netanyahu said.

He then turned the prop into a taunt aimed directly at Iran’s delegation.

“I’m going to leave this device with you so you can give it to the Iranian delegation,” Netanyahu told the presiding U.N. official. “So when they inevitably defect, they too can share their story.”

Iran’s delegation had already walked out as Netanyahu took the podium, leaving behind a photograph of slain Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a U.S. drone strike ordered by President Donald Trump in 2020.

Israel’s U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon responded with a jab of his own.

“It’s understandable why they left a photo of a former general,” Danon said. “Photos are about all they have left of their senior generals.”

Netanyahu said Iran’s rulers increasingly fear not Israel, but their own population.

“You know what they’re most afraid of? Their own people — the brave Iranian people who have sacrificed so much for so long,” he said.

Netanyahu pointed to the regime’s violent suppression of anti-government demonstrations earlier this year and challenged protesters outside the U.N. and delegates who abandoned the chamber over his appearance to explain their silence.

“Where were you when the Iranian tyrants butchered and maimed tens of thousands of unarmed Iranian civilians?” he asked.

Despite that silence, Netanyahu said, Iran’s rulers would ultimately be unable to suppress their own people.

“The power of the people will overcome the people in power,”he declared.

“I want you to listen to my words carefully,” Netanyahu continued.“One day — and it may not be far away — the Iranian people will be free. Their murderous regime will be toppled by its lies, by its corruption, by its cruelty. This evil regime will fall, and we will all celebrate that day.”

The prediction capped an address that began with Iran, as Netanyahu recalled standing at the same U.N. podium 14 years ago and famously drawing a red line across a diagram of a bomb to warn that Tehran could not be permitted to acquire nuclear weapons.

“I vowed to prevent Iran’s murderous dictatorship from developing atomic bombs,” Netanyahu said Thursday. “Nuclear weapons that could threaten the entire world. That’s exactly what I did.”

Netanyahu said carrying out the strikes that devastated Iran’s nuclear facilities was extraordinarily difficult militarily — but not as a matter of decision-making.

“Devastating Iran’s nuclear facilities was hard. It was very hard to do,” he said. “But for me, it was one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever had to make as prime minister. Because if we hadn’t done it, we’d all be dead.”

His remarks came moments after representatives from scores of countries either stayed away from the chamber or walked out as he prepared to speak. Israeli officials said 77 delegations were absent or joined the walkout.

“If there are any other moral cowards who haven’t yet left this hall, please do so now,” Netanyahu told them.

The prime minister then accused some of the same governments publicly condemning Israel of privately expressing gratitude for its campaign against Iran.

“In defending itself, Israel is also defending many of the countries whose delegates just left this hall,” he said.

“In fact, I want you to know that many of their leaders even thanked us privately for taking out Iran’s nukes,”Netanyahu added. “It’s hard to imagine more mind-blowing hypocrisy, but that’s exactly what it is.”

Netanyahu portrayed the campaign against Iran as part of a wider Israeli victory over the seven fronts that converged against the Jewish state following Hamas’s October 7, 2023, massacre.

“For three years, seven fronts — Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, Iran, militias in Iraq, militias in Syria, Palestinian terrorists in Judea and Samaria — they all ganged up on us to wipe us off the face of the earth,” he said.

“They failed because instead of collapsing, we delivered crippling blows to all of them,” Netanyahu continued. “With our great American friends, we crushed Iran’s army, navy, air force and nuclear facilities.”

He also thanked Trump for his “bold leadership” and partnership against Iran, saying the two countries acted together against a regime whose leaders have repeatedly threatened both nations.

“Israel and America acted together — not only to protect ourselves, but to save civilization,” Netanyahu said.

The address came as the Trump administration is simultaneously applying extraordinary military and economic pressure on Tehran while testing whether that leverage can produce an agreement.

“One way forward would be to solve the crisis in stages,” a senior Iranian official told the outlet. “The first would be to end the blockade and reopen Hormuz.”

The talks follow a lengthy round of indirect negotiations Tuesday on the sidelines of the General Assembly, during which U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said mediators shuttled between the American and Iranian sides.

Trump subsequently said the talks “went very well” and described “a lot of momentum” toward an agreement, while making clear that Iran would not be permitted to acquire a nuclear weapon.

The diplomacy is unfolding under an increasingly punishing U.S. pressure campaign.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Wednesday that Washington is cuttingoff the regime’s “financial oxygen” through a combination of the U.S. blockade and what the administration calls Operation Economic Outcast, describing Iran’s rulers as “cornered animals” and predicting that “they’re going to yell uncle.”

That pressure intensified Thursday as Iranian airlines were barred from several neighboring countries under new U.S. sanctions targeting foreign companies that continue doing business with Tehran.

The military pressure has continued alongside the economic campaign. U.S. Central Command said Wednesday that American forces had redirected 115 commercial vessels as part of what it called the “steel wall blockade,” while CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper said over the weekend that more than 1 billion barrels of crude had passed safely through the Strait under U.S. protection since the operation began.

Iran, meanwhile, has continued threatening a wider conflict even as its representatives negotiate in New York.

Maj. Gen. Yahya Safavi, a former IRGC commander and current adviser to Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, warned Thursday that another U.S. or Israeli attack could expand the battlefield beyond the Persian Gulf and Red Sea toward the Indian Ocean.

Iran’s threats came one day after President Masoud Pezeshkian used his own U.N. address to declare that Tehran was prepared for diplomacy but would not “bend the knee” to American pressure.

Netanyahu offered a starkly different forecast less than 24 hours later.

Recalling his late brother Yoni Netanyahu’s words as a young paratrooper before the 1967 Six-Day War, the prime minister said Israel’s survival has always depended on its willingness to prevail when its enemies leave it no alternative.

“We’re going to win,” Netanyahu said. “We have no other choice.”

Sanctuary Raids: ICE Arrests Illegal Aliens Convicted of Murder, Sexual Abuse of Children

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested more illegal aliens in sanctuary jurisdictions, including those convicted of murder, child rape, and possession of child sexual abuse material.

“Every day, the brave men and women of ICE are risking their lives to arrest and remove illegal aliens from our communities. Yesterday, ICE arrested murderers, pedophiles, rapists, and other dangerous criminals,” Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin said.

Among those illegal aliens arrested is Esteban Enriquez-Munoz of Mexico. Enriquez-Munoz was arrested in the sanctuary state of California after having been convicted of murder, robbery, and assault.

Likewise, ICE agents arrested Viengxay Chaleunphong of Laos in the sanctuary state of Massachusetts. Chaleunphong was previously convicted on three counts of child rape, as well as assault and battery on a child under 14 years old.

Jendrick Ordonez-Calate of Guatemala was arrested in Delaware, which the Department of Justice lists as a sanctuary state, after having been convicted of rape in Sussex County.

Jorge Avila-Velez of Mexico, previously convicted of possessing, viewing, or controlling 1,000 to 100,000 items of child sexual abuse material, was arrested in the sanctuary state of New Jersey, while Hamza Boufnichal of Morocco, previously convicted of obstruction, false identification, grand larceny, and assault and battery, was arrested in Fairfax, Virginia, a sanctuary jurisdiction.

“President Trump made a promise to the American people that he would make America safe again, and DHS is delivering on that promise,” Mullin said. “We will never apologize for arresting and removing illegal aliens who should never have been in America in the first place.”

Mark Lucas, founder and president of Veteran Action, said in a statement that Miller-Meeks is “the biggest champion veterans have in Congress.

He continued, “She consistently leads on veterans issues. Her 24 years in the Army and her experience as a physician make her an incredible advocate for veterans.”

Earlier this year, Miller-Meeks introduced the Veterans’ Bill of Rights Act, which “ensures veterans are clearly and consistently informed of their rights when seeking care and benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA),” per her office. This includes:

access to VA or VA-authorized providers, consistent with eligibility under existing law;

courtesy, dignity, and respect in all interactions with VA;

clear, complete information about treatment options and informed consent;

information on benefits, programs, and services for which the veteran may be eligible;

ability to apply for benefits at any time with clear eligibility explanations;

ability to seek care or raise concerns without retaliation or adverse action;

protection of personal information and medical records under existing law;

complaint filing with timely investigation and resolution;

transparent, written communication on claims, benefits, and appeals;

access to appeals and fair hearings under existing processes.

The bill specifically states that it would “require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to carry out efforts to inform veterans of their rights with regards to the receipt of health care, benefits, and services furnished under provisions of law administered by the Secretary, and for other purposes.”

“Our veterans have worn the uniform, defended our freedoms, and upheld our Constitution. They should never be left in the dark when it comes to the benefits and care they have rightfully earned,” Miller-Meeks said in a statement at the time. “Too often, I hear from Iowa veterans who are frustrated and confused by the VA’s complex bureaucracy. This bill cuts through that confusion, ensuring veterans are treated with dignity, and given clear, accurate information about their rights and available services.”

Veterans Action points out that the Iowa lawmaker also supports other pro-veteran legislation, including the Veterans’ ACCESS Act as well as the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act.

Miller-Meeks defeated GOP challenger David Pautsch in the primary race and will face off against Democrat Christina Bohannan in November. Notably, Bohannan is a former Iowa state representative and pro-DEI University of Iowa law professor who is vying for this seat — largely considered a battleground district this time around — for the third time.

First Lady Melania Trump took the crown as chicest in the room at the United States-China State Dinner on Thursday evening, wearing top European fashion houses for the occasion.

Mrs. Trump, alongside her husband, hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, First Lady of China Peng Liyuan, for the state dinner, appropriately held in the East Room of the White House.

For the dinner, Mrs. Trump chose a cotton poplin blouse from Saint Laurent featuring an oversized bow detail and Dolce & Gabbana cigarette silhouette trousers made of floral brocade. Mrs. Trump tied the two together with a silk satin cummerbund, also from Dolce & Gabbana.

President Trump presented Chinese President Xi Jinping with a custom-made bald eagle statue during his official state visit on Thursday.

The president announced the gift at the White House during an evening State dinner.

“In that spirit of friendship, it’s my honor to present President Xi with a gift made by an extraordinary American artist, one of the greatest in the world, and designed in personal collaboration with Melania and myself,”the president said.

“The bald eagle is a national symbol of the United States and an embodiment of the free and soaring spirit of America, and we hope it will find a nice place, a wonderful place in Beijing,” he added.

The president issued his gift after giving Xi a brief tour of the White House ballroom that is still currently under construction.

“As a special treat in honor of President Xi and Madame Peng,I’d like to invite everyone in the room to visit through that beautiful curtain in the back door,” Trump said. “It’s all lit up and it looks beautiful.”

“You’ll be the first people to step foot on that,” the president continued, “and we’ll do that maybe after we’re finished with the entertainment tonight.

According to NDTV, President Trump and President Xi discussed a range of issues during their meeting.

“The gift came during Xi’s three-day visit to Washington. Trump and Xi held talks at the White House earlier in the day before attending the state dinner, which was also attended by senior officials and several prominent US business and technology leaders,” it noted.

“The two leaders discussed several issues linked to US-China relations, including trade, technology and artificial intelligence. Xi said the two sides had held “sincere and in-depth exchanges” and reached a common understanding on several issues,” it added.

U.S. HSI, Colombian Cops Take Down Cartel Human Smuggling Network Posing as Travel Agency

A joint international operation between agents with U.S. ICE Homeland Security Investigations and Colombia’s National Police led to the arrest of five members of a cartel-connected human smuggling network. The cartel reportedly moved hundreds of migrants into the U.S.under the guise of a travel agency and abused the U.S. asylum system.

Colombia’s Director of Criminal Investigations, Elver Vicente Alfonso Sanabria, announced the takedown, which they dubbed Operation Thunder II, revealing a series of raids in the country. The group had been active since 2022. During that period, the cartel successfully moved at least 300 migrants into the United States before the takedown.

According to Alfonso, the group posed as a travel agency, selling travel packages to Mexico for $3,000 to $4,500 USD. Once the migrants were in Mexico, they would then move them to the U.S. southern border, where they would cross illegally and then smuggle them to their final destination.

“In the event that they were intercepted or detained by U.S. authorities, they were instructed to file political asylum applications based on false allegations regarding supposed threats attributed to organized armed groups in Colombia,” Alfonso said.

Colombian authorities did not reveal which Mexican cartel the smuggling group had to work with in order to get the migrants into the United States. However, as Breitbart Texas revealed, human smuggling became one of the largest revenue streams for drug cartels during the Binden Border Crisis. Drug cartels would collect a fee from migrants or human smuggling networks for the right to cross into the U.S. through their territories.

Senator Ted Cruz targeted Muslim Americans at the recent Republican midterm convention, declaring that Sharia law “has no place in America.”.

NEW YORK (AP) —Some of the loudest cheers for Sen. Ted Cruzat the Republicans’ recent midterm convention in Dallas came after the Texas politician targeted Muslim Americans and their faith’s religious code.

“Sharia law has no place in America,” said Cruz. “We need to stand together and stop it now.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott chimed in moments later, vowing to “fully ban Sharia law in Texas.”

Muslim American civic leaders and scholars— in Texas and other states — are responding forcefully to this latest surge in anti-Sharia rhetoric that dates back more than 15 years.

They passionately defend Sharia — the way it’s practiced in the United States —as positive guidance that has elements in common with the codes of other faiths, such as the Ten Commandments and the collective body of Jewish law derived from the Torah. They rebut the claims of GOP critics that Sharia is a coercive code that threatens the U.S. Constitution and judicial system.

Though there aremultiple interpretationsof Sharia, its essence is to serve as a code for how Muslims should live and worship — covering such matters as prayer, pilgrimages, fasting, charitable donations and personal virtue.

Among the most energetic of Sharia’s defenders is Illinois-based Sabeel Ahmed, director of an outreach project called GainPeace. He travels widely around the U.S., with a recent focus on Texas, speaking at mosque-sponsored workshops and open houses.

“Sharia is often misunderstood,” Ahmed posted on Instagram after a midsummer visit to Plano, Texas.“Many people think Sharia is only about punishments, but in Islam it is Allah’s guidance for living with faith, justice, mercy, and responsibility.”

Ahmed attributes the durability of anti-Sharia vitriol to politicians and social-media influencers who want to rile up their voting base or their followers.

“They gain popularity by saying it,” he told The Associated Press. “It’s the job of the Muslims to educate what is the proper meaning of the word Sharia. We cannot be angry or hateful.”

Sharia’s role varies significantly among Muslim nations

Among those appalled by the anti-Sharia surge in the U.S. is Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na’im, aSudanese-born Islamic scholar who taught for many years at Emory University School of Law in Atlanta. He is a longtime critic of the relatively small number of governments in Muslim nations that coercively enforce Sharia, saying Muslims are better off in secular states where their religious observance is a matter of free choice.

An-Na’im says he and other Muslim Americans embrace Sharia willingly as a core part of their identity,even as they also embrace American values.

The demonization of their beliefs displays “a shocking ignorance of what Sharia means,” An-Na’im said. “It’s a total dehumanization of the other, the rejection of their right to be human.”

The rhetoric is similarly dramatic among Sharia’s opponents —epitomized by the two U.S. representatives from Texas, Republicans Keith Self and Chip Roy— who co-founded the Sharia-Free America Caucus in Congress.

“Sharia is a direct threat to our Constitution and Western valuesand seeks to replace our legal system and erode our basic freedoms,” Roy said earlier this year. “Our immigration system must be prepared to confront this challenge and defend our Judeo-Christian values.”

By last count, the caucus had more than 60 members. All of them are Republicans, and its members have introduced several anti-Sharia bills since the caucus was formed last December.None of those measures have been successful.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, has designated the caucus as an anti-Muslim hate group.

“The bigoted rhetoric used by this caucus resembles the hatred that anti-Catholic politicians once unleashed against Irish Americans,” said CAIR research and advocacy director Corey Saylor.

“Islam is an American faith, present for over 250 years,” he added. “No one who wrote the Constitution or enforced it since has empowered these legislators to pick which religions get to exist in America.”

Texas has been a battleground for Sharia disputes

There has been substantive anti-Sharia action in Texas. In August, Attorney GeneralKen Paxton demanded documents from the Dallas-based Islamic Tribunal, which provides religious guidance to Muslims.

Paxton said in a news release that the investigation by his office sought to determine if the tribunal was engaged in illegal activity, such as acting as a court, applying foreign laws that conflict with Texas or federal law, or issuing rulings that imply government authority.

“This is America, and we will not be governed by sharia law,” Paxton said.

The Islamic Tribunal

subsequently updated its website with a “ Clarification of Mission and Activities,” stressing that its guidance “complements, and never replaces, the legal, social, and professional services available in American society.”

“The Tribunal does not function as a court of law and does not issue legally binding judgments,” it said. “Our role is limited to mediation and religious arbitration requested by members of the Muslim community in matters related to faith, family guidance, and internal religious affairs.”

Any matters requiring legal enforcement are referred directly to the Texas judicial system, said the tribunal, which likened its work to the services provided by Jewish Beth Din courts and Catholic ecclesiastical tribunals.

Sharia defenders seek to broaden understanding of its essence

Asma Uddin, a professor at Michigan State University’s College of Law, has argued in her writings that many American politicians are depicting ordinary Muslim religious practices — such as prayer, choice of apparel, family counseling and mosque attendance — as evidence of a political danger.

In an interview with the AP, Uddin depicted the current wave of anti-Sharia rhetoric as fearmongering by politicians who view the issue as advantageous for them.

“When politicians use this, it’s giving them exactly what they’re looking for,” she said. “They’re looking for a scapegoat … and this gets people riled up.”

Sabeel Ahmed, who has made three outreach trips to Texas so far this year, plans a trip to Houston in a few weeks for another mosque open-house. He’s also working on a book to be mailed to Christian clergy across the U.S., seeking to broaden their understanding of Sharia and other Islamic practices.

“Islam is not to be feared,” Ahmed said. “People should meet a Muslim, go to the mosque, reach out to us. Let’s emphasize the commonalities we have.”

Donald Trump has sparked fury online after handing Chinese President Xi Jinping a statue of a bald eagle - with critics questioning the gesture towards the communist leader.

The US president presented the sculpture, which he and first lady Melania helped design, at a lavish White House state dinner on Thursday night, saying it represented America's "free and soaring spirit".

He said it came from an "extraordinary American artist" but did not reveal the name of the creator. Xi arrived empty-handed so had no gift to give in return.

The gift quickly drew criticism on social media, with some users pointing to Trump's previous attacks on communism.

"So no more claiming to be against Communism?" one user fumed, pointing to the president's past comments, reports the Irish Star.

Another user shared footage from July showing Trump denouncing communism. "Also, Trump," they wrote alongside the clip.

"Thinks a Bald Eagle will keep Xi in good graces," another person wrote.

In June, Trump described communism as "this horrible threat of cancer that's permeating our country" as he spoke to an audience at the Faith & Freedom Coalition Conference in Washington. On Sunday, the White House said in a post on X that "communism directly opposes the United States Constitution and American values."

"While every Democrat voted against the largest tax cuts in American history and over 100 refuse to condemn socialism, President Trump will ensure that communism never has a place in America," it added.

The dinner came at the end of the second day of Xi's three-day state visit. Protesters opposing Xi's visit drowned out the official band with chants.

President Xi and his wife, Madame Peng, were arriving for the dinner when the demonstrators made themselves heard.

Trump appeared to lean towards Xi and say something quietly, prompting the Chinese president to briefly chuckle. The four then posed for photos before Trump escorted Xi inside.

The dinner came as both countries agreed to extend a trade deal until January 10.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed the extension in an interview with Fox News, saying it would give the two sides more time to work on key issues including tariffs and trade barriers.

"I don't know whether a bigger deal can be done, Bessent said. "I don't know whether we will just roll the current deal."

Trade is one of several major points of tension between the US and China, alongside artificial intelligence, Trump's conflict with Iran and China's ambitions with Taiwan.
