US President Donald Trump has reportedly called on Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky to travel to Moscow for peace talks with President Vladimir Putin, Bloomberg has reported, citing sources close to the Ukrainian leader.

Russia has previously repeatedly said that Zelensky could visit Moscow at any time.

The American president made the suggestion during his meeting with Zelensky on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly this week, the outlet reported. The Ukrainian leader rejected the idea, people familiar with the conversation told Bloomberg, adding that Trump’s proposal had “upset him.”

Zelensky was visibly irritated by journalists outside the UN headquarters on Wednesday. Pressed about when he would visit Moscow, the Ukrainian leader replied: “On a f***king missile!”

Earlier this week, Ukraine and 51 of its backers released a statement demanding that Russia accept an “immediate and unconditional ceasefire” so that peace talks between Moscow and Kiev can take place. Russian Foreign Minister SergeyLavrov said Moscow will not halt its military operation, accusing Kiev’s European sponsors of seeking a pause only “to pump the Kiev regime with weapons.”

Trump has recently renewed efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict, with his special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner traveling to both Moscow and Kiev earlier this month.Witkoff said afterward that he felt “good” about the discussions in both capitalsand that Washington hopes diplomacy can bring an end to the conflict.

Moscow has repeatedly said it is ready to settle the Ukraine conflictas long as its root causes are addressed and the realities on the ground are taken into account. Russia’s demands include Ukraine abandoning its plans to join NATO and adopting neutral status, accepting restrictions on its armed forces, and formally recognizing Crimea and four other former Ukrainian regions as Russian territory. Crimea voted to join Russia shortly after the 2014 Western-backed coup in Kiev. Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions held similar referendums in September 2022.

Kiev has consistently rejected Moscow’s conditions, insisting on restoring control over all territories it lays claim to and joining NATO. At the same time, Zelensky has repeatedly stated that he wants to meet Putin in person to settle the conflict, even though he legally barred himself from such talks.

Moscow has repeatedly cited Kiev’s aggressive posture and the hostile position of its European backers as major obstacles to a peace settlement.

The Kremlin has nevertheless maintained that it is ready to welcome Zelensky to Moscow at any time if he truly wishes to reach a deal rather than stage a PR stunt, even though Russia considers him “illegitimate,” as his presidential term expired more than two years ago and he has not called a new vote.

On Wednesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia was ready to “provide security guarantees” to Zelensky if he decided to travel to Moscow.

South Korea slams ‘callous and irresponsible’ Zelensky

President Lee Jae-myung has accused the Ukrainian leader of breaching a secrecy agreement for a PR stunt

Vladimir Zelensky put his personal interests first when he breached an agreement with Seoul not to disclose the transfer of two North Korean prisoners of war captured in Russia, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has said.

Zelensky touted the arrangement during his speech to the UN General Assembly this week, saying it was “not easy to capture alive” the two soldiers. North Korea deployed troops to assist Russia in repelling a Ukrainian incursion into Russia’s Kursk Region in 2024-2025.

Lee rebuked Zelensky, without naming him, in an X post on Thursday, arguing that statesmen should put national interests first rather than opportunistically seeking to boost their own popularity.

The Ukrainian leader demonstrated a “callous and irresponsible attitude [that is] simply unacceptable,” the president wrote, stressing that Seoul and Kiev had agreed to keep the highly sensitive transfer private.

South Korean opposition lawmaker Yoo Yong-won, who championed the transfer of North Korean POWs since meeting them in Ukraine last year, told reporters that the two soldiers arrived in the country earlier this week.

He criticized the Lee administration for seeking to keep the agreement with Zelensky secret and said the government “should have taken a more proactive and assertive approach.” The deal was reached sometime in June, he added.

Kiev has long pressured Seoul to provide direct military support for the conflict with Russia, citing North Korea’s involvement in the conflict. Yoo said that, as far as he knew, the delivery of the POWs was not conditioned on South Korea changing its policy of not sending weapons to Ukraine.

South Korea does not formally recognize the government in Pyongyang as legitimate and considers all Koreans citizens of a single nation, regardless of the part of the peninsula where they were born.

The two soldiers captured in Russia are said to have expressed the wish to be sent to South Korea. Both were reportedly taken prisoner in January 2025.

Ukrainian soldier behind deadly Polish convent stabbing attack – RIA

One priest has died and another is in a critical condition after the attack in the southeastern city of Jaroslaw

A Ukrainian man has stabbed five people at a Catholic convent in southeastern Poland, killing a priest, according to the local authorities. The suspect had served in the Ukrainian army, RIA Novosti reported on Friday, citing an anonymous source familiar with the criminal investigation.

The attack occurred at around 9:30 AM on Thursday at the Benedictine abbey complex in Jaroslaw, in Podkarpackie region, which borders Ukraine.

According to preliminary findings, the suspect took a knife from a kitchen at the complex. The attack took place inside the church as clergy and worshipers were preparing for mass.

The priest who died from his injuries was hearing confessions ahead of the service and reportedly tried to stop the attacker. Another victim, also a priest, is in serious condition. The lives of the other three wounded, a man and two women, are no longer in danger, the authorities said.

The suspected attacker,identified as a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen, was detained at the scene. Investigators said he entered Poland from Germany overnight and was apparently heading toward a border crossing with Ukraine. The suspect is a Ukrainian soldier on his way to Ukraine, RIA Novosti reported, adding that he will now undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

It remains unclear how he ended up at the abbey or what his motive was.

The attack has triggered shock in Jaroslaw, with residents gathering outside the abbey and lighting candles for the slain priest.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki said the killing had caused “deep shock and outrage,” adding that “the principles and values of our community must be respected by all those residing in our country.”

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the perpetrator would be punished “with the full severity of Polish law.”

Opposition leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski has called for investigators to establish the circumstances of the suspect’s presence in Poland and whether he had previously come to the attention of security services.

The incident comes amid a marked deterioration in Polish attitudes toward Ukrainian refugees. A July report by the polling agency CBOS found that, for the first time since it began tracking the issue, a majority of Poles opposed accepting them, with 52% against and 42% in favor.Support had stood at 94% shortly after the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022.

The share of Poles who believe reconciliation with Ukrainians is possible has fallen to a record low of 53%, according to CBOS data published in September, while 38% said it was impossible. The survey came amid persistent historical disputes, particularly over the WWII-era Volhynia massacres of Poles and the legacy of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).
