Police officer who raped baby sentenced to 16 years imprisonment after being caught by colleagues

A police officer has been sentenced to 16 years in jail for raping a baby. PC Dean Roberts, 48, was caught by his own colleagues after he filmed himself abusing the child before sending the footage to other pedophiles.

Robertsโ€™ crime was exposed after the arrest of a fellow pedophile, lawyer John Guess, led detectives to their colleague. The pair planned to jointly abuse children and share footage of their crimes, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

The now ex-police officer admitted to a litany of charges that included rape, sexual assault of a child, as well as possession and distribution of indecent images of children.

In court, the mother of Robertsโ€™ victim said: โ€œI can never forget the knock on my door and my whole world just falling apart. It was just like being hit by a bus. We will always have to live with the consequences.โ€

Upon handing Roberts his sentence, Judge Recorder of Cardiff Eleri Rees QC stated: โ€œThe victim was particularly vulnerable because of her extremely young age. She was helpless to defend herself although the footage indicates she was awake and in real discomfort.โ€

US mid-terms: Can we tell now if Democrats will win?

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-45013748

Will they or won't they? With the mid-term congressional elections three months away, the biggest question is whether Democrats can win enough seats in Congress to wrest control of at least one of the two chambers and give Donald Trump a bloody nose.

That would have immediate and drastic implications for the president's ability to advance his political agenda and Democratic oversight of his administration.

The "mid-term wave" - a sweeping electoral triumph that reshapes the US national political layout field - is a recurring phenomenon in US politics.

But what is it, and when have they happened before?

"There's really no good definition," says Geoffrey Skelley of the University of Virginia Center for Politics.

"It's just broadly viewed as an election where one party does particularly well to the point where they flip control of a chamber of Congress and also win a sizable number of seats that the other party held."

For the purposes of this analysis, a mid-term wave is where one party picks up a combination of more than 20 seats in the US House of Representatives and the Senate.

That's happened eight times in the last 70 years, notably in 1994 (a Republican wave against Bill Clinton) and 2010 (one against Barack Obama).

UK restricting OPCW access to Amesbury and Salisbury cases, says ex-UN chemical weapons inspector

https://www.rt.com/uk/435338-opcw-salisbury-skripal-poisoning/

The UK is restricting the work of OPCW specialists involved in the investigation into the Amesbury poisonings, a former UN chemical inspector has told RT, after Britain invited experts to assist with the case.

Detailing that the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) remit will be limited by the UKโ€™s โ€˜technical assistance request,โ€™ Anton Utkin, a former UN chemical inspector in Iraq, stated: โ€œThe UKโ€™s desire is that OPWC confirm the chemical agent, that the UK has already identified. That means that the OPWC specialists will be limited to take only those samples that UK will allow, they will interview only those people that the UK would allow.

โ€œSo it's very important for the UK that OPWC specialists only perform their requested tasks, otherwise the information about the investigation could spill out.โ€
