Israeli minister storms Al-Aqsa compound and threatens prisoner

Itamar Ben-Gvir, the leader of a far-right party, has sparked a new double scandal

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has led a major incursion into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem.

Ben-Gvir, leader of the far-right Otzma Yehudit party, showed up at the compound on Sunday to mark the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. Jews call the area around the mosque Temple Mount, as it used to house two Jewish temples in ancient times before becoming the third holiest site for Muslims.

The minister was accompanied by a heavily armed security detail, as well as backed up by crowds of Israeli civilians. A total of 1,143 Israelis breached the compound in several successive groups, according to the Jerusalem Governorate of the Palestinian Authority.

Ben-Gvir was seen brandishing a massive Torah scroll and performing Talmudic rituals while onlookers cheered, footage from the scene shows.

Shortly after entering the compound, Ben-Gvir stirred up further controversy, releasing on X footage of him confronting Hassan Salameh, a high-profile Palestinian prisoner, in jail. Salameh, believed to be a senior Hamas figure, has been held by Israel for three decades over the 1996 terrorist attacks, including a bus bombing.

Footage released by Ben-Gvir shows him alongside multiple guards armed with assault rifles meeting shackled Salameh inside a small room. “I want to kill you. I want to execute you,” Ben-Gvir told Salameh. The encounter left the prisoner “trembled and terrified,” the minister claimed.

The stunt has been strongly condemned by various rights groups as abusive and inhumane. The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office, for instance, condemned Ben-Gvir’s actions as a “criminal act” and cheap political theatrics.

Ben-Gvir has been the key proponent of the recently adopted Death Penalty for Terrorists Law, which gives Israel broad powers to execute alleged “terrorists.” The legislation mandates the death penalty for those convicted of deadly terrorist attacks aimed at “ending Israel’s existence” – a provision critics say effectively exempts Jewish Israelis, making the law applicable almost exclusively to Palestinians. The death penalty must be carried out within 90 days of sentencing, with no right of appeal.

The far-right minister is known for inflammatory rhetoric toward Palestinians and heavy-handed treatment of prisoners, including international activists, and has been sanctioned by multiple countries for repeatedly inciting violence against them.

Rahm Emanuel has been a former advisor to the Bill Clinton White House, a Democrat Congressman for Illinois, President Barack Obama's Chief of Staff, a two-term Chicago Mayor, and President Joe Biden's ambassador to Japan. In the last three decades, he has not been outside the halls of power, most recently strongly hinting at a run for the Democratic presidential nomination for the 2028 election.

In a September interview with Rolling Stone, Emanuel said he was “more yes than no” about a potential 2028 presidential run, and has spent just over a year laying the groundwork with podcast appearances on shows like Honestly with CBS News head Bari Weiss and The New Yorker Radio Hour. He has also published several policy papers over the last year, including one suggesting age limits for political office and banning children under 16 from social media.Polling, however, shows Emanuel is far from the favorite among Democrats. Raheem Kassam, Editor-in-Chief of The National Pulse, has previously suggested an ulterior motive for his shadow campaign: Not to win the nomination, but to secure another top spot in the next Democratic presidential regime, possibly as Vice President.

While serving only part of the administration for 20 months, Emanuel represented the corporate-friendly wing of the Democratic Party, urging Obama not to include a public option in Obamacare, another policy that put him severely at odds with popular socialist Democrats.However, the most high-profile controversy of Emanuel’s Obama years was a corruption case against Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who was accused of trying to sell Obama’s former Illinois Senate seat. Emanuel was in contact with Gov. Blagojevich at the time, although was never charged with any wrongdoing, and newly unsealed FBI files released this month show that Obama was aware of Emanuel and Blagojevich discussing giving the seat to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. According to Blagojevich, this was in exchange for her father, then Illinois House Speaker, supporting his budget and healthcare package. As a result of the scandal, Blagojevich served seven years and 11 months in prison, until he was pardoned by President Donald J. Trump in 2025.

Following the Blagojevich affair, Emanuel sought and won the Chicago mayoral race in 2011, serving two terms as the mayor of America’s “homicide capital.” Under Emanuel, there were 19,000 shootings, 4,000 murders, and an average of 541 murders per year from 2011 to September 2018. This was up from an average of 463 murders the year prior to him taking office.The fatal shooting of 17-year-old black teen Laquan McDonald in 2014 by Chicago police was Emanuel’s most high-profile scandal after the city refused to release dashcam footage of the incident for over a year. The video did not get a public release until a judge ordered it in November of 2015. McDonald had been shot 16 times by police, with the city agreeing to a $5 million settlement with his family shortly before the footage emerged.The New York Times labeled the affair a “cover-up” in 2015. The Chicago Sun-Times also noted in a 2020 report that Emanuel conveniently agreed to the settlement a week after the April 2015 mayoral runoff, and approved it before any lawsuit had even been filed.

Kash Patel’s Right-Hand Man Leaves FBI

FBI Co-Deputy Director Andrew Bailey announced Monday that he is stepping down from his role after one year on the job.

Bailey, who served as Missouri’s Republican attorney general from Jan. 2023 to Sept. 2025 — before joining the Bureau — said in an X post that he is resigning to spend more time with his family.

“I want to thank President [Donald] Trump, @AGToddBlanche, and @FBIDirectorKash for the opportunity to serve in the FBI,” Bailey, a father of four, wrote in the social media post. “Under President Trump’s leadership, we have delivered historic results in our mission to Make America Safe Again. With great pride in what we have accomplished, I am announcing that I am stepping down to return to my family in Missouri.”

“I am confident [FBI Director Kash] Patel will continue to reform the FBI, combat violent crime, defend the homeland, ensure strong organizational accountability, and restore public trust in this institution of excellence,” the post continued.

The FBI did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

“I want to thank Andrew Bailey for his dedicated service to return the FBI to its core mission and fulfill President Trump’s promise to make America safe again,” Patel wrote in a Monday X post. “Although Andrew is leaving the FBI in order to return to his family in Missouri, his fantastic contribution instituting critical reforms which resulted in our historic success will live on.”

“Andrew’s leadership at the FBI will be missed but we are grateful he answered the call to serve! Thanks Andrew for your tremendous dedication to the mission of this FBI,” Patel added.

Bailey’s resignation will take effect on Oct. 2, two anonymous sources familiar told Bloomberg Law.

Patel and Bailey did not get along well and sometimes went long periods without talking to one another, multiple anonymous sources told The New York Times.

Conservative podcast host Dan Bongino notably served as deputy director of the FBI from March 2025 until his departure from the role in January, overlapping with Bailey’s tenure for three and a half months. Bongino was succeeded in his role by FBI Co-Deputy Director Christopher Raia.

Moralistic Therapeutic Deism keeps Christian words, then reduces God to a helper who exists to meet felt needs. The result is not worship. It is abandonment by another name.

America did not simply lose church attendance. It cultivated a faith that does not need God enough to worship Him.

Christian Smith and Melinda Lundquist Denton gave that religion a name in their 2005 youth-religion research: Moralistic Therapeutic Deism, or MTD. Its creed makes happiness the point of life, treats God as an emergency resource, and sends “good people” to heaven.

The National Study of Youth and Religion found a drift away from historic religious substance; Smith’s own summary set out the five beliefs plainly.

The result is a Christianity that keeps the vocabulary while cutting out the cross, repentance, obedience, and fear of God.

“The MTD believer attends church when it is convenient, gives when it is comfortable, and leaves when the church stops meeting their felt needs … When MTD believers stop attending church, it is not apostasy. It is the logical conclusion of what they believed. A God who does not need to be particularly involved in your life does not need to be worshiped on Sunday morning either.”— Christian Faith Archive

That is the anti-God core. God becomes useful, not sovereign. He is summoned for comfort, then dismissed from the life He created.

Ezekiel’s warning falls on a people who knew God’s name yet treated covenant faithfulness as optional. Its implications are not safe for modern pews.

The older theological road also matters. John Nelson Darby shaped the dispensational current that C. I. Scofield’s 1909 Reference Bible spread through American evangelicalism. The indictment is that the system made it easier to exile warnings like Ezekiel’s to another people, another age, another obligation.

The false religion did not erase God. It made Him irrelevant.

Board of Peace official: Extremist views in Israel impeding effort to deradicalize Gaza

Official from US-controlled panel overseeing Gaza rebuild expresses alarm over widespread support in Israel — trickling down from politicians to youth — for ‘encouraging migration’ of Palestinians

Widespread public support in Israel for “encouraging the voluntary emigration” of Palestinians from Gaza risks undermining efforts to implement US President Donald Trump’s plan to rebuild the war-decimated enclave, an official from the Board of Peace told The Times of Israel.

“The 20-point plan speaks of a ‘deradicalized’ Gaza, and that is what our remit focuses on. But it’s undeniable that increasingly extremist views in Israel make what we’re trying to do more difficult,” said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The official from the US-controlled panel tasked with overseeing the postwar management of Gaza took particular issue with Israeli support for encouraging Palestinians to leave the Strip. Critics say “voluntary emigration” is a euphemism for the forced displacement of Palestinians, given the current untenable living conditions in the Strip and the fact that many supporters of the initiative want to replace Palestinian towns with Israeli settlements.

It’s not just the far-right Otzma Yehudit and Religious Zionism parties that back depopulating Gaza of its Palestinian population. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other prominent members of his Likud party have backed the idea, as well as opposition party heads Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid), Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu) and Benny Gantz (Blue and White). Ofer Winter has made the policy a central plank of his new People of Israel party’s policy, and it is also backed by Reservist Party chief Yoaz Hendel.

“Beyond this policy being immoral, it is also completely impractical,” the Board of Peace official said, insisting that countries are not prepared to accept massive numbers of Palestinian emigrants, as they do not believe Israel will allow them to return to Gaza if they choose to do so.

Trump himself backed a similar idea when he called in February 2025 for the US to take over Gaza and clear the territory of its Palestinian inhabitants, though he has since abandoned the initiative in favor of his 20-point plan, which was unveiled in September 2026 and states, “No one will be forced to leave Gaza, and those who wish to leave will be free to do so and free to return. We will encourage people to stay and offer them the opportunity to build a better Gaza.”

The Board of Peace is going to help facilitate the exit of some Palestinians, including students seeking to study at universities abroad, but the bulk of the Strip’s population of some 2 million is expected to remain.

The official clarified that Israeli hostility toward Palestinians is “not surprising” after Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack, in which the terror group orchestrated the brutal killings of 1,200 people and the abduction of 251 hostages.

The board is working to recreate the education system in Gaza to teach tolerance and coexistence — outlooks whose absence contributed to the conditions that allowed the October 7 massacre to take place, the official said, acknowledging the participation of some Palestinian civilians in that attack.

The official admitted that the Board of Peace’s work will be cut out for it due to the results of Israel’s ensuing war, which has killed tens of thousands of civilians and destroyed the vast majority of infrastructure in Gaza.
