Exclusive: FBI Has Blocked over $1 Billion in Theft by Cyber Criminals Since January 2025

Mariane Angela30 Sep 2026

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Recovery Asset Team has denied more than $1 billion in attempted cyber theft since January 2025,which is a 16 percent increase over the same period under the previous administration, the bureau told Breitbart News on Thursday.

FBI Director Kash Patel, in figures the FBI Office of Public Affairs provided exclusively to Breitbart News, credited the recovery total towhat the bureau described as a wholesale rebuild of its cyber operations.

Patel said the number shows a shift in how the bureau confronts financial criminals.

This is the latest success in this FBI’s total overhaul in our ability to crush cyber criminals. Our Recovery Asset Team’s $1 billion in denied theft since January 2025 – a 16% increase since the same period under the previous administration – shows we are built for the mission. We’re cutting off the criminal actors early, blowing up almost $20 billion worth of scam compounds overseas with our work through Operation Blackout, and completely modernizing our capability to stay on top of a constantly changing threat landscape. This is no longer an FBI that waits to act – this FBI is moving quickly, efficiently, and decisively in ways never seen before.

The Recovery Asset Team operates the bureau’sFinancial Fraud Kill Chain, a process that races to freeze fraudulent wire transfers by coordinating with banks before the money moves beyond reach. In 2025, the team initiated roughly 3,900 such actions against more than $1.1 billion in attempted theft and froze $679 million, a 58 percent success rate, according to the FBI’s most recent Internet Crime Complaint Center report.

Ben Williamson, an assistant director in the FBI Office of Public Affairs, tied the recovery figures to Operation Blackout, the bureau’s campaign against overseas scam compounds. Williamson said the operation has seized roughly $17 billion, arrested hundreds of suspects, freed thousands of trafficked workers, warned more than 10,000 Americans before they lost money, and prevented an estimated $660 million in losses.

Patel has described the targeted compounds as fortified settlements rather than call centers. “These are towns, these are cities,” Patel told Fox News Digital. “These are actual villages with structures where they force people into forced labor.”

The intelligence chief saidolder Americans make up the bulk of the victims. The bureau has referred 99 victims for suicide intervention, seized 584 scam websites, and sent 7,670 fraudulent accounts to private companies for action, according to Fox News Digital.

In May, thebureau reported a then-record $8 billion cryptocurrency seizure and 275 arrests in Dubai, where authorities said nine raided compounds each generated about $6 million a year in fraud. An August raid at Cambodia’s roughly 200-acre O’Smach Resort compound involved searches of 28 buildings over three days.

The announcement follows earlier FBI cyber actions Patel has detailed in his weekly updates. In June, the bureau reported that FBI Clevelanddisrupted a Chinese phishing platform linked to nearly $1.9 billion in losses worldwide under Operation Riptide. In April, the FBI and Justice Department announceda scam-center takedown charging two Chinese nationals, restraining about $700 million in cryptocurrency, and seizing 503 websites.

Americans filed more than one million cybercrime complaints in 2025 for the first time in the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center’s history, reporting $20.9 billion in losses, with adults 60 and older accounting for $7.7 billion.

Leading AI Experts Fault Senate Democrats for Blocking Ratepayer Act

Mariane Angela30 Sep 2026

Innovation Council Action Director of Government Affairs Nicholas Elliot said Wednesday that Senate Democrats voted to push rising electricity costs onto American families after the chamber blocked the bipartisan Ratepayer Protection Act.

The advocacy group issued the statement after the measure fell on a 57-43 procedural vote, short of the 60 needed to break a filibuster and open debate, according to a report publishedWednesday.

Elliot said the bill rested on a principle President Donald Trump has pushed and the House had already endorsed.

“President Trump championed a simple principle: Data centers should pay their own way,” Elliot said. “The House of Representatives overwhelmingly agreed. Senate Democrats had the opportunity to reach across the aisle and make life more affordable for Americans, but they failed to do what’s right.”

The House passed the measure, sponsored by Rep. Gabe Evans (R-CO), by a 417-3 vote on Sept. 16. The only three no votes came from progressive Democrats Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Summer Lee (D-PA), and Delia Ramirez (D-IL).

Elliot noted that 206 House Democrats backed the bill their Senate colleagues rejected. He said the Senate caucus turned it down twice before leaving Washington to campaign.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) tied the opposition to the calendar.

“Given the overwhelming support for this measure in the House, it’s difficult to conclude that Senate Democrats blocked this bill for any reason other than the desire to deny Republicans another win in an election year,”Thune said.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) argued the bill did too little, describing it as a “toothless messaging bill” in a floor speech Tuesday. The New York Democrat said his caucus wants a mandate written into law rather than a voluntary framework states may ignore.

Four Democrats broke ranks and voted with Republicans: Jon Ossoff (D-GA), Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN).

Wednesday marked the second block. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM) objected to an earlier unanimous-consent request from bill sponsor Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH), saying it did not go far enough.

Husted wrote on X Thursday that lawmakers across the spectrum had backed the bill.

The vote came in the Senate’s final days before the November midterms, with both parties fighting to claim the cost-of-living issue. The chamber the same day defeated a separate stock-trading ban on a 53-47 vote.

Alex Marlow: Anthropic and OpenAI Are ‘Building a Cartel’ while ‘Pretending to Be the Altruists’

Alana Mastrangelo30 Sep 2026

Breitbart News editor-in-chief Alex Marlow slammed Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman — among other AI executives — declaring, “They are building a cartel right in front of your face” while “they’re pretending like they’re the altruists in the process.”

“I’m not going to say I think we’re doomed, but I’m also not going to say I know we’re not. We are in a new age where this technology is very powerful. It’s poorly understood,” Marlow told attendees at Pastor Allen Jackson’s recent Culture & Christianity Conference.

Watch Below:

“And most apropos, the power is concentrated in the hands of the too few,” Marlow added, before bringing up an “alleged Anthropic AI whistleblower” who has recently “overwhelmed the news cycle.” Marlow made his position on the alleged whistleblower clear, telling the audience, “It’s a hoax.”

“I’ll tell you why the hoax matters,” the Breitbart News editor-in-chief said. “It starts with a guy named Jacob Coxon. He’s a 27-year-old researcher who’d worked at Anthropic, which is Claude, and OpenAI, which is ChatGPT.”

“This is an AI duopoly, and they run in a closed-weight system,” Marlow added, referring to an AI model that is kept private and hidden from the public.

The Breaking the News author went on to point out that the alleged AI whistleblower posted to X, in part, “The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt.”

“He posted to X and it got 200 million views,” Marlow said. “This is a guy who works at Anthropic — or did for a time — and then said ‘they’re going to kill us in a decade.’ And, by the way, he’d already reached out to the Wall Street Journal who backed him up with a story making it look more legit.”

“So, naturally, you would think Anthropic would rush out and say ‘that’s ridiculous,'” Marlow continued, before noting, “No, that’s not what they did.”

The Breaking the Law author explained that “Next, a guy named Evan Hubinger — a scientist for Anthropic, who’s also followed by virtually no one online — posted about the crazy tweet that we’re all about to die in the affirmative.”

“Jacob is correct here — we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade,” Hubinger wrote, in part, replying to Coxon’s X post.

“As of now, that tweet’s been viewed more than 42 million times — and counting,” Marlow noted.

Alex Marlow: The Truth About AI, Christianity and the Push to Control It

In this episode of The Alex Marlow Show, Alex shares his address from the Culture & Christianity Conference, tackling one of the biggest debates facing America: artificial intelligence, faith, culture, and who will ultimately control AI.

Is artificial intelligence really an existential threat to humanity? Should Christians fear the rapid development of AI? And are some of the loudest calls for AI regulation really about protecting humanity—or protecting the interests of powerful companies and their position in the marketplace?

“If your BS detector is going off — and mine is, too — days later, Dario Amodei, the co-founder of Anthropic, comes out and he says not only are these guys not nuts, we actually need to slow down the progress of AI before it’s too late,” he added.

The Breitbart News editor-in-chief also pointed out that Amodei is “backed up by Sam Altman, the co-founder of ChatGPT, Open AI.”

“Dario, Sam, if you guys are watching — if you guys want to slow down, you’re the boss. You can do that whenever you want. No one is stopping you from slowing down,” Marlow advised.

“I run a newsroom and a podcast. If I want to print fewer articles or put out fewer shows, I don’t need to write essays about it and call for international government agencies to regulate me. I can just not do as much,” he further quipped.

The Breaking Biden author then emphasized, “Yet, that’s exactly what Dario Amodei called for. He called for one: an independent third-party monitoring of models, two: industry-wide standards, and three: government and global regulation.”

“You’re starting to see what’s going on here, right?” Marlow continued. “He’s calling for a regulator agency to regulate his own company. That can’t make sense! Oh, but it makes perfect sense once you realize who’s going to run the AI governing boards.”

“Amodei proposed a group called METR, which is a Berkeley-based group,” the host of The Alex Marlow Showexplained. “One of the most recognizable names in METR is a guy named Holden Karnofsky.”

Marlow then noted that Karnofsky so happens to be “married to someone named Daniela Amodei, who is the co-founder of Anthropic with her brother.”

“So, Dario’s solution to the deadly AI that he created is to appoint a group tied to his own family,” Marlow said, eliciting laughter from audience members.

“Dario Amodei wants an AI regulator controlled by Dario Amodei and Dario’s sister, so they can create the framework under which all of us operate,” he added.

Marlow warned that “the reason these guys want regulation” is because they are after “power and market capture.”

“They’re not interested in saving humanity,” the editor-in-chief continued. “They want to use AI to be able to leverage market capture and, God forbid, create these international bodies that will control more of your lives.”

“They get their way when we cede AI control to some regulatory agency or a foreign tribunal, and then their competition is going to go out of business because anyone who wants to get in the game against them is going to get regulated to death,” he added.

“They are building a cartel right in front of your face,” Marlow explained. “And they’re pretending like they’re the altruist in the process.”

Peter Schweizer Deflates the AI ‘Robot Apocalypse’ Scare

Breitbart News30 Sep 2026

“Killer robots” aren’t (yet) a real thing, but they certainly are a useful threat if you’re an artificial intelligence maker worried that cut-rate competitors might enter the AI market and ruin your planned stock sale.

“We’re all going to die horrible deaths at the hands of killer robots. Or so say the voices that speak loudest in Silicon Valley. All the big tech leaders are saying we need increased regulation or AI is going to be out of control,” cautions investigative reporter Peter Schweizer. “But is this actually being ginned up to benefit them and their businesses?”

“I can’t remember a time when you have the leaders, not just a lone whistleblower from a company, but the leaders of companies come out and say our products might be dangerous,” adds Eric Eggers, Vice President of the Government Accountability Institute and co-host of The Drill Down podcast.

Schweizer, GAI’s president and an eight-time #1 bestselling author, replies, “I’ll go even further on what you said. The heads of the companies are not saying, ‘We need to stop doing this.’ They’re saying, ‘You need to make us stop doing this.’ That’s what is so weird.”

Right now, two of the largest AI companies, Anthropic and OpenAI, are planning IPOs, while their leaders are relentlessly warning Americans about the dangers of “killer robots” and begging Washington to regulate them. For Schweizer, the situation parallels the financial crisis of 2008 when the country’s largest financial institutions begged DC to impose regulations, which came to be known as Dodd-Frank, and which, coincidentally, their lobbyists mostly wrote themselves. Those rules resulted in the elimination of smaller competitors unable to operate while complying with all the new paperwork.

Meanwhile, tech realists like Jensen Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA, calls the “killer robot” scare an overblown fear. And President Donald Trump hasn’t been impressed either, telling reporters, “I don’t worry about it. If something is bad, they have to fix it. And if they don’t fix it, that’s why you have the Department of Justice.”

The scare tactics have made some strange bedfellows, Schweizer notes, bringing Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Trump associate Steve Bannon together on the same “pro-human” stage to bemoan the coming robot apocalypse.

The hosts also quote Brad Gerstner, a large investor who pointed out on CNBC that there is already U.S. government review — by the Center for AI Standards and Innovation in the Commerce Department — of AI models as they come out.

“It’s interesting the heads of these companies are saying, ‘Maybe the government should be regulating us.’ But here’s an investor who isn’t part of a company rushing towards $1 trillion IPO, saying, ‘Actually, the U.S. is the global leader at regulating it,’” observes Eggers. “So, there is a cop on the beat.”

Schweizer cited investor Steve Eisman, who used the word “moats” to describe what is really going on. Author Wynton Hall’s recent bestseller on AI called Code Red describes that perfectly: “As free-market conservatives know all too well, many supposed ‘safety’ regulations advocated by industry insiders are thinly veiled examples of regulatory capture — attempts by powerful, established companies to box out smaller firms and shield titans from competition.”

Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates is on the side of more regulation, saying it’s “just a little more overhead.”

Hall’s book also quoted Vice President J.D. Vance on the same idea (p. 58): “Who is most aggressively demanding that we… do the most aggressive regulation? It is very often the people who already have an incumbent advantage in the market. And when a massive incumbent comes to us asking us for safety regulations, we ought to ask whether that safety regulation is for the benefit of our people or whether it’s for the benefit of the incumbent.
