A California technology company owner was charged with allegedly smuggling more than 300 million dollars worth of controlled computer servers with advanced GPUs to China. The indictment claims he used false documents and shipments through other countries to avoid U.S. export rules. The case is still a legal matter, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Facts:
Greg Lui, 38, owns Earthmade Computer Inc. in the City of Industry, California.
Federal prosecutors charged Lui with conspiracy to violate export laws, smuggling, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
The indictment claims the activity happened from 2023 to 2024.
The case involves high end computer servers containing U.S. made graphics processing units used for advanced computing.
The indictment claims the servers were shipped through countries such as Malaysia and Singapore before reaching China.
Prosecutors say false paperwork was used to make the shipments appear allowed.
Earthmade received more than 176 million dollars from two Malaysia based shipment companies during the alleged scheme.
The charges could lead to prison sentences of up to 20 years for some counts and up to 10 years for the smuggling count.
The FBI, Department of Commerce, and Defense Criminal Investigative Service investigated the case.
