NASA Releases Artemis II Lunar Science Data, Images

October 7, 2026 12:12PM

NASA’s Artemis II crew traveled around the Moon and back and, along the way, captured stunning imagery and scientific observations of our nearest neighbor.

NASA is making the full lunar science dataset from their journey available Wednesday to the global science community and the public for further study.

More than 800 gigabytes of Artemis II lunar science data – some previously unreleased – have been uploaded to NASA’s Planetary Data System, the public archive for NASA’s planetary missions.

This data release includes more than 11,000 full-resolution images and video of the Moon from the crew’s handheld cameras and the Orion spacecraft’s cameras, 8.5 hours of audio recordings of the crew’s scientific observations of the lunar surface, and crew-annotated images.

When combined, the images, audio files, and crew notes from the expedition provide a powerful lunar science dataset ripe for exploration and analysis.

This is the first planetary science dataset captured primarily by humans in more than half a century and humanity’s influence on it is clear.

Through training in classrooms, simulations, and field environments, NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen developed expertise in lunar geography, geology, and observational best practices.

Their quick decisions about observation targets and which images to capture, along with their perceptions of color and dynamic changes, and discussions about the science of the lunar surface and its surroundings complement decades of data from Apollo astronauts and robotic explorers and deepen our understanding of the Moon as NASA prepares for long-term exploration of the lunar surface.

Along with this data, NASA has released the Artemis II Preliminary Lunar Science Report, the Artemis II Lunar Science Operations Report, and the Artemis II Lunar Science Data User Guide.

Together, these three publications provide an overview of the Artemis II lunar mission data and activities, and a technical summary of how the science plan was developed and implemented.

This information is already helping inform NASA’s exploration plans for Artemis III and beyond.

NASA says Russia, China could join Artemis Accords if they align with principles

Update: 07 October 2026

Speaking at world's largest annual space gathering in Türkiye, NASA's deputy administrator says accords will stay focused on civil space and leave military issues to national governments

Russia and China could one day join the US-led Artemis Accords on space exploration if they come to share its principles, but they do not today, NASA's deputy administrator said Wednesday.

"If one day, Russia and China were like-minded in those principles, which we don't see them as that right now, then there would be a possibility to join the Artemis Accords," Matt Anderson told reporters at the International Astronautical Congress in Antalya.

Anderson said the 76 countries that have signed the accords share a "common bond" built on agreed principles for safe, transparent, and responsible activity in space.

Moscow and Beijing are instead leading a rival effort, the International Lunar Research Station, which plans a joint research base on the Moon. Some countries belong to both groups. Some signatories' academic institutions also work with the Chinese-led project.

Asked whether that was a concern, Anderson said: "What sovereign nations do is up to them." Signing the accords does not stop countries from pursuing their national interests, he added.

Anderson spoke a day after co-chairing a closed-door meeting of the accords' members with Maj. Gen. Roberto Melgar Sheen, director of Peru's space agency, CONIDA. Anderson said just over 40 countries attended.

Melgar Sheen said participants reached agreement on space debris. They also discussed debris on the lunar surface.

"The first step to stop space debris, or to deal with space debris, is to stop creating it," Anderson said.

Asked about concerns over weapons in space, Anderson said the accords cover civil space activities. He said military matters belong with each country's national security bodies.

"For us in the United States, that's United States Space Force and United States Space Command. What the Artemis Accords is focused on is that civil space sector," he said. "Nobody wants kinetic fighting in space. We are about peaceful exploration."

Anderson also said students from member countries will be able to attend a new US Space Academy, a four-year civilian university. US President Donald Trump ordered its creation in August, and Anderson said the first students are expected in the summer of 2028.

He said member nations are eager to contribute to NASA's planned Moon base. Contributions could range from small satellites known as CubeSats to engineers on US industry teams building landers and rovers.

Germany will host the accords' next annual workshop in 2027, Anderson said.

Melgar Sheen said this year's workshop in Lima, the first in Latin America, used simulations and tabletop exercises to test principles such as non-interference, interoperability and data sharing.

He said Peru hopes to take part in future lunar missions, possibly alongside other Latin American countries.

"We firmly believe that the future of lunar and deep space exploration must be guided by transparency, sustainability, interoperability, and inclusivity," he said.

Launched in 2020 by the US and seven other countries, the Artemis Accords are a nonbinding set of principles for the peaceful exploration of the Moon, Mars, and beyond. They are based on the 1967 Outer Space Treaty. Türkiye signed in August.

The accords are tied to NASA's Artemis program. Its Artemis II mission carried astronauts around the Moon in April, the first crewed lunar flight in more than 50 years.

Trump’s Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy Announces Five Actions to Accelerate Commercial Space Licensing

Tuesday, October 6, 2026

Proposed rules represent the USDOT SPACE Task Force’s first pillar to cut red tape & supercharge American space dominance

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is proposing five rules to streamline and modernize the commercial space launch and reentry regulations.

The rules were developed in concert with the recently launched the USDOT Space Policy Administration, Coordination, and Execution (SPACE) Task Force.

Key changes to the Part 450 commercial space licensing process include:

Allowing operators to submit launch applications electronically

Providing greater flexibility to demonstrate an equivalent level of safety

Combining three required safety analyses into a single submission

Eliminating duplicative safety analyses when a safety requirement is already addressed through other approved methods.

What we’re doing: The proposed rules would make the Part 450 licensing process more efficient, less burdensome, and more flexible for operators while maintaining the FAA’s safety standards.

Why it matters: Simplifying these critical rules will ensure American space operators can continue leading the world in commercial launch growth while maintaining the FAA’s highest safety standards.

These actions also support President Trump’s space policy goals in his Enabling Competition in the Commercial Space Industry Executive Order and National Space Transportation Policy to enhance American greatness in space by enabling a competitive launch marketplace and substantially increasing commercial space launch cadence to 1,000 per year by 2030.

“We can’t unlock the final frontier if we let red tape hold American innovators back from leading the way,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy.

“By making simple, common-sense changes to modernize the commercial licensing processes, we can strengthen the United States’ position as a powerhouse for commercial space transportation while maintaining the highest safety standards in the world.”

“The SPACE Task Force is moving quickly to execute on President Trump’s vision to achieve America’s continued superiority in space,” said U.S. Under Secretary for Transportation Ryan McCormack.

“The commercial space industry is moving at lightning speed, and our regulations need to keep pace. I’m proud of the work the Task Force has already done to hit the ground running and create the conditions that will revolutionize America’s commercial space industry.”

“These proposed rules are just the beginning of the FAA’s effort to reduce unnecessary burdens on the U.S. commercial space industry,” said Acting Deputy FAA Administrator Liam McKenna.

“These changes will give operators greater flexibility and make the licensing process more efficient, while ensuring the safety of the National Airspace System remains our top priority.”

Reminder:

The U.S. was responsible for 217 of the 329 commercial space launches worldwide in 2025 and we expect to see that number will soar to 10,000 FAA-licensed launches and reentries a year by 2035.

Additional Information:

The five proposed rules are:

Streamlining Flight Safety Analysis Methodology Means of Compliance NPRM

Simplifying Physical Containment Requirements NPRM

Lightning Hazard Mitigation Burden-Reducing Exception NPRM

Digital Modernization for Licensing Electronic Application Submissions NPRM

Overpressure Blast Effects Analysis Burden Reducing Clarification NPRM

The moon hides Jupiter in spectacular photographs of October's lunar occultation

October 7, 2026

See the best photos of the Oct. 6 lunar occultation of Jupiter.

Millions of stargazers saw Jupiter vanish from the night sky on Tuesday (Oct. 6) as the moon's slender crescent passed directly in front of the gas giant in a spectacular display of orbital mechanics.

The full occultation was visible across a swath of North America, Western Africa and the Atlantic Ocean, where the moon passed directly between Jupiter and the observer.

Countless others outside of the path of occultation saw the 20%-lit moon shine just a few degrees away from Jupiter thanks to the parallax effect, which causes nearby celestial objects to appear in a subtly different location based on the viewer's location on Earth. (Reminder: Your clenched fist held at arm's length covers about 10 degrees of sky.)

Mars’s oddest cloud may be even odder than we thought

07/10/2026

Scientists using the European Space Agency's Mars Express, in combination with a state-of-the-art meteorological model of the Red Planet, have found that there may be some very exotic physics behind Mars’s most curious cloud.

Every spring and summer in Mars’s southern hemisphere, during the martian dusty season, we see a spectacular cloud emerge: the Arsia Mons Elongated Cloud (AMEC), the most visually striking cloud on the Red Planet.

This white wisp of water ice emerges downwind of the 20-km-tall Arsia Mons volcano. It forms, grows, and fades on a daily basis, stretching out for up to 1800 km – nearly twice the length of the UK – before quickly evaporating.

This cycle repeats every morning for several months.

Mars Express first revealed the AMEC in 2018, and has viewed the recurrent cloud repeatedly since.

Researchers have explored its evolution, vivid dynamics and intriguing behaviour, determining it to be an orographic cloud: a type of cloud also seen on Earth that forms as wind flows past the craggy topography of a volcano or mountain.

However, when trying to model exactly how the cloud springs to life, our simulations simply didn't reproduce what we see in the images – until now.

“To create the AMEC in our modelling, we found that we needed to include some exotic physics… physics that, while included in textbooks, is treated as theoretical and usually thought not to happen in nature.

It certainly hasn’t been seen in action before,” says Jorge Hernández-Bernal of LMD/CNRS/Sorbonne Université in Paris, France, lead author of the new study. “Once we included this physics in our simulations, the AMEC emerged just as we hoped.”

“Wholly unexpected”: a rare process in action

On Earth and elsewhere, clouds typically form when moist air cools and water vapour condenses into liquid droplets or icy crystals.

This usually happens via a process known as heterogeneous nucleation, which requires specks of other ‘stuff’ to be present in the atmosphere for vapour to cling and condense onto – salt, pollen, soot, or dust, for instance. On Mars, it’s thought to be dust.

Anonymous ID: 0dfdfe Oct. 7, 2026, noon No.25115666   🗄️.is 🔗kun

>>25115662

“For the AMEC, it seems that cloud formation takes place without needing any of this ‘stuff’,” adds Jorge. “Water vapour turns directly into icy cloud particles without any middle step.

It’s akin to droplets of condensation appearing in the middle of a room, rather than on a window. We call this homogeneous nucleation, and we’ve never seen it before in a planetary atmosphere. It’s wholly unexpected.”

Scientists had suggested that this process might take place in the upper atmospheres of Earth and Venus, but it hasn’t been spotted.

Its rarity is due to it requiring exceptional circumstances, with extreme relative humidity levels of over 100 000 times those usually experienced in our daily life on Earth.

“We’ve not seen these conditions on Mars before, but our finding now strongly suggests that the planet’s humidity can indeed reach these extreme levels,” says Jorge.

Jorge and colleagues found that the AMEC sits in a unique position where Mars’s thin atmosphere and the towering height of the nearby Arsia Mons volcano come together to create the conditions needed to see this rare process in action.

As winds flow past Arsia Mons, the volcano’s bulk triggers a powerful wave that lifts moist parcels of air several kilometres up into the air in just a few minutes.

This cools the atmosphere rapidly, causing temperatures to drop by 30 degrees in just 10 minutes and relative humidity levels to spike. Water vapour then spontaneously freezes directly into cloud particles, forming the AMEC.

A win for Mars Express

While some aspects of the modelled cloud don’t exactly match the observations, “the result is remarkable,” says Jorge.

“We don’t have nearly as much information about Mars’s atmosphere as we do about Earth's, so reproducing the AMEC to this degree is a big success for the model.”

The researchers based their modelling on data from the three cameras aboard Mars Express: the Visual Monitoring Camera, High Resolution Stereo Camera, and OMEGA.

Mars Express can image large swathes of the martian surface at high resolution, and it is one of the few Mars-orbiting spacecraft – alongside ESA’s ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter – able to observe during morning hours, when the AMEC is present.

“Mars Express can also track how the cloud is changing on timescales of mere hours, which gives us an unrivalled view of short-lived phenomena on the planet,” says ESA Mars Express Project Scientist Colin Wilson.

“Overall, this finding is a true accomplishment for the mission and its scientists: Mars Express discovered the AMEC, has followed up and monitored it for years, and is now helping reveal the secrets of its formation.”

Beyond furthering our understanding of atmospheric processes on Mars and elsewhere, the result highlights that we should not discount unlikely processes when exploring the planets of the Universe (including exoplanets).

Colin adds: “While clouds on Earth and Mars seem to be governed by the same ‘rules’, understanding this exotic martian cloud required exotic physics – and this may be true elsewhere in the cosmos.”

Russia pounds missile warehouses across Ukraine

7 Oct, 2026 12:36 | Updated 7 Oct, 2026 13:40

The overnight barrage targeted seven sites storing and producing long-range Flamingos and other weaponry, the Defense Ministry has said

Russian forces unleashed an overnight barrage on Ukrainian facilities producing and storing long-range weaponry, including several sites tied to the domestically developed FP-5 Flamingo missile, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said.

In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry said high-precision weapons and drones struck military-related targets in Kiev and its suburbs, as well as Chernigov, Kirovograd, Dnepropetrovsk, Poltava and Kharkov Regions.

In Kiev, the attacks targeted a Smart Ammunition facility used to assemble and store FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles, FP-9 tactical ballistic missiles and components for both.

Another strike hit a Fanplit facility in the Ukrainian capital producing Flamingo components and FP-1 and FP-2 long-range drones, as well as the Kiev Cardboard and Paper Mill, which housed FP-5 missiles.

In Chernigov Region, the barrage was aimed at a Plastmass-Priluki plant which also produces Flamingo components, and in Dnepr the Russian forces targeted the Yuzhmash aerospace plant manufacturing, storing and supplying the missiles.

The ministry said an AvtoKrAZ facility in Poltava Region producing specialized chassis for Flamingo launchers was also struck, along with a mechanical plant in Kharkov Region that assembled and stored Flamingos.

The FP-5 Flamingo is a Ukrainian ground-launched cruise missile produced by Fire Point. Ukrainian officials claim it has a range of up to 3,000 km and can carry a warhead weighing more than one ton at a maximum speed of about 950km/h.

Fire Point CEO Irina Terekh told The Guardian in July that the company was producing about 100 Flamingos per month, although it is unclear whether the number is sustainable due to Russian strikes.

Apart from the missile facilities, the attacks struck a drone workshop in Kirovograd Region, the JTI Ukraine tobacco factory in Kremenchug, which is used to manufacture small-arms ammunition, and the Danube Shiprepair facility at the port of Izmail, which is now being used for producing and storing maritime drones, Russian officials said.

The ministry added that a dry cargo vessel carrying military and dual-use supplies was hit in Odessa port.

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky claimed that Russia had launched 70 missiles, many of them ballistic, as well as attack drones, arguing that “one of the key targets was our energy infrastructure.”

In Kiev, Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported hits on non-residential facilities and fires at warehouse premises. Local authorities also said one of the strikes hit an enterprise in the Kremenchug district.

The Ukrainian Interior Ministry claimed that 12 people had been killed and more than 40 civilians wounded nationwide after the strikes, with rescue operations continuing at several locations.

The latest Russian barrage comes after the Defense Ministry vowed to ramp up strikes on Ukraine’s military-related facilities and infrastructure in response to Zelensky’s threat to step up attacks on Russian oil refineries. Moscow maintains it never targets civilians.

Ukraine Strikes Russia’s Seshcha Airfield, Drone Launch Site and Command Posts

Oct 07, 2026 14:41

Ukrainian forces struck Russia’s Seshcha airfield and multiple drone, radar, electronic warfare, command, and logistics sites on October 6 and overnight October 7.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported the strikes on October 7, stating that the targets were located in Russia and temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories.

The General Staff noted that the extent of damage at Seshcha airfield in Russia’s Bryansk region is still being assessed.

According to the General Staff, Ukrainian forces also struck a Russian electronic warfare station near Hrynove and a radar station near Elionka in the Bryansk region.

The military command added that a site used to store, prepare, and launch Russian strike drones was hit near Donetsk.

The General Staff further reported strikes on Russian drone command posts near Bilotserkivka and Kamianka in the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia region.

It also confirmed a strike on a command post near Hirnyk and command and observation posts near Ukrainsk and Kurakhivka in the Donetsk region.

In the temporarily occupied Luhansk region, the General Staff reported that Ukrainian forces struck a logistics depot near Krynychne and a fuel and lubricant depot near Kondriuche.

"The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to strike enemy military facilities," the General Staff wrote.

The strikes form part of Ukraine’s broader effort to disrupt Russian rear-area command, drone, surveillance, electronic warfare, and logistics infrastructure supporting combat operations.

Ukrainian forces have repeatedly hit the same categories of Russian infrastructure, including a drone storage and launch site near occupied Donetsk, which was struck on September 14 and overnight into September 15.

That operation also targeted three electronic warfare stations, two radar sites, and a MESH communications relay in the Bryansk region, along with a fuel and lubricant depot in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region.

Separately, a RAM-2X drone struck a Russian Nebo-M long-range radar near the Millerovo airfield in Rostov region, a facility regularly used to launch Shahed-type drones against Ukraine.

The radar was hit roughly 175 kilometers from the line of contact.

IDF chief ties Oct. 7, Yom Kippur War as failures military must learn from

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir stated that both the failures of the 1973 Yom Kippur War and the 2023 October 7 massacre were "two painful shortcomings, two failures, with a connecting thread between them," in a Wednesday visit to the military's new 38th Division.

On the third anniversary of the October 7 massacre, Zamir said that "the lesson we must all learn from both wars is that the possibility of a surprise attack must concern us all; the IDF must always be prepared for a surprise war."

"A commander who does not question and entrenches himself in his perceptions will be defeated. Reality is constantly sending us signals, and it is our duty to identify those signals, listen to them, and constantly adapt," Zamir added.

"At the same time, we must not become immersed solely in failure; we must confront it, learn from it, and move forward," he stated.

Ben-Gvir calls to dismantle Palestinian Authority on three-year anniversary of Oct. 7 Massacre

Gadi Eisenkot, former IDF chief of staff and current leader of the Yashar party, marked the day by going to Kibbutz Re'im. He visited the bomb shelter where Aner Shapira was killed.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for the dismantling of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank during his remarks at a Wednesday morning event marking the third anniversary of the October 7 Massacre.

The event was held at the Nitzanei Oz junction, a highway junction in central Israel where Highway 6 an Israeli north-south route intersects with Highway 57, an east-west route that goes through the West Bank. The intersection is adjacent to the West Bank Palestinian city of Tulkarm, a site of frequent IDF raids and terror threats.

"Three years ago, on October 7th, the State of Israel was caught off guard," Ben-Gvir said. "We must not repeat that same mistake…I say this in the simplest and clearest terms: The [Palestinian] Authority must be dismantled. Their weapons must be confiscated. They must be disarmed. Authority officials must be arrested. We must not repeat the same mistake twice."

RSF drone strikes kill four civilians, target officials’ homes in Sudan’s Blue Nile capital

Ahram Online , Wednesday 7 Oct 2026

At least four civilians were killed and others injured on Wednesday in drone strikes by Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting Damazin, the capital of Blue Nile state, while homes belonging to the state's finance and culture and information ministers were also attacked.

The attack came days after a similar assault on Damazin that targeted several sites, including the home of Blue Nile Governor Ahmed al-Omda, causing material damage to the property.

Vital facilities in Damazin have previously come under drone attacks, including fuel supply stations, resulting in deaths and injuries and disrupting some facilities, according to local sources.

The Sudanese government has accused Ethiopia of allowing its territory to be used as a launchpad for drone attacks on areas of Blue Nile state, allegations that Addis Ababa has denied.

Sources told Sudan Tribune that "four civilians were killed at dawn when a drone struck residential homes in the Al-Hijra neighborhood of Damazin."

They added that several drones also attacked other parts of Damazin, including the home of the Minister of Finance, Abbas Kara, and the residence of the head of the Supreme Council for Culture and Information.

The fighting front in Blue Nile state, in Sudan's far southeast, has been active since January between the Sudanese army and an alliance of the RSF and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North.

The RSF-SPLM-N alliance has seized the towns of Kurmuk and Qaysan, both near the Ethiopian border, as well as other areas in the state.

UFOs, Demons Or Something Else?: Mystery Grows Around Sacred African Mountain

October 7, 2026

NYANGA, Zimbabwe — Nyangani Mountain, the highest peak in Zimbabwe (standing at 2,592 meters above sea level), has been the source of local intrigue for decades:

People have gone missing, strange natural phenomena have created inexplicable mystical experiences; and now, some are even claiming the mountain is home to UFOs.

Located in the Eastern Highlands, the mountain is a tourist destination and harbors cultural significance to local people. Visiting the mountain traditionally requires one to follow strict cultural protocols and African Traditional Religion rites.

Failure to comply may result in being lost while hiking the mountain and, in worst-case scenarios, disappearing. Most of its visitors are hikers and researchers from around the world.

Since 1980, accounts of dozens of hikers being lost in sudden fog have been recorded, and unexplained disappearances and strange experiences have been reported by some visitors.

The elders in the area say this has been the norm for many decades. The disappearances have become part of Zimbabwean folklore, including the widely publicized 1981 disappearance of two young girls, the daughters of a government minister and other cases that remain unresolved.

Every time, search teams and local communities have conducted extensive operations, but some missing persons were never found. While these incidents have contributed to the mountain's mystique, rescue experts point to practical explanations.

Rapidly changing weather conditions, which include dense mist, steep terrain, deep ravines and low visibility, can make navigation extremely difficult, even for experienced hikers.

In recent years, Christians have challenged traditional and mystic experiences surrounding Mount Nyangani. They attribute the phenomena to spiritual warfare found in the Bible and fallen angels rather than ancestral guardians (the gods).

A local pastor said mountains are God-given and must be enjoyed like any other nature, without need for traditional appeasement rites.

“God created the mountains, forests and rivers,” said Godfrey Mutara, a pastor based in Nyanga. “We must respect the Creator and praise him for such scenic nature, not to dread in fear.

The occult phenomena on high mountains, including Mount Nyangani and other dense forests, are habitats of demonic principalities cast down from heaven.”

Mutara is not alone. Many Pentecostal and evangelical Christians view the legends of Mount Nyangani, such as ancestral spirits, strange creatures or unexplained disappearances, through a cosmic lens of spiritual conflict.

Rather than employing local customs and traditional mitigation measures to appease the mountain, Christian teaching is spreading in the area, instructing believers to rely on prayer, faith and spiritual authority in Jesus Christ to confront regional spiritual strongholds.

This is a shift from what has been traditionally believed in the Nyanga community and in other parts of Zimbabwe.

Cultural expert and researcher Tinashe Muchuri said that Inyangani Mountain is associated with the Simboti people, who claim they have the power to speak in the underworld associated with this mountain.

“It is a sacred shrine on which the people of the area communicate with nature and nature communicates with the people,” Muchuri said.

“Unlike other sacred mountains, which the Christians in the area always climb while fasting to gain powers or the energy endowed in the sacredness of the mountains, Inyangani Mountain is not tolerant of such behavior.

So, here Christians climb it as tourists and not as a place of pilgrimage.”

Amid the spiritual claims, recent claims by Lyn Buchanan, a former CIA agent, about unexplained phenomena at Zimbabwe’s Mount Inyangani have revived international interest.

Those involved in remote viewing — or psychic spying — is a controversial practice where someone claims the “ability to describe distant people, places or events without using ordinary senses,” according to Ryan LaBee, a writer for Military.com.

Buchanan made the claims during his appearance on the American Alchemy podcast.

With unexplained disappearances of people in the mountains and scary folklore, UFO enthusiasts are adding extraterrestrial theories to the mix. But Christians reject both interpretations.

Buchanan, a retired Army intelligence veteran who participated in the U.S. government’s Cold War-era psychic intelligence project, Project Stargate, stated that Mount Nyangani was among several locations allegedly identified through remote-viewing sessions as sites of unusual activity

Buchanan said the Mount Nyangani site functions as a UFO repair, maintenance and intelligence center.

He claims that Nyangani is one of four such extraterrestrial bases globally, alongside sites in Alaska, Australia and the Pyrenees. Buchanan also said remote viewers observed beings and craft using these hidden mountain facilities.

“Unlike the other three sites, the Nyangani facility functions as a repair center for extraterrestrial craft for ETs and for UFOs. The site is heavily guarded. You see too much. You disappear,” he said.

There is no publicly available evidence from Zimbabwe’s scientific studies or archaeological findings confirming the existence of extraterrestrial activity or underground alien bases at Mount Nyangani.

After these revelations, local leaders expressed concern that international fascination with alien theories risks trivializing the mountain's cultural importance.

Taurai Mudzudza, an archaeologist, heritage specialist and local villager, said Nyangani is a sacred mountain where rainmaking ceremonies are done by all the communities around it. Oral histories passed down through generations describe the mountain as a place deserving respect and caution.

“We also call it the mountain that swallows people,” Mudzudza added. “People who climb it, especially Mt. Muozi, without asking for permission from the local chief Saunyama will usually disappear.

The Masaya twins who disappeared in 1984 and the Indian tourist who disappeared in 2013 are some of the examples.”

Mudzudza has noticed many visible changes lately. Some community members are no longer respecting the traditional values of the mountain since they now believe that everything that happens in and around Mount Nyangani is demonic, which requires prayers to cleanse it.

“Some African Independent Churches are doing their prayer sessions in that mountain as a way of cleansing those ‘evil’ spirits,” he said. “However, they face a lot of mysteries while doing their prayers, and a case in point is the 2020 example where three [people] died while doing their prayers.

It is said that there was heavy mist that suddenly appeared, and it became exceedingly cold, and the congregants could not identify each other.”

Mudzudza said local leaders are “now understanding that the world is evolving very fast; as such, people’s beliefs are also changing, so they are now granting them permission to do their prayers.

However, they encourage them to follow the taboos of the mountain. They started believing that it’s important to embrace the traditional ethos in their own Christian model.”

Let’s Go Deep Into An Alien Species Rabbit Hole

October 6, 2026

From big-eyed Greys and scaly Reptilians to Pleiadians, Nordics, and good old-fashioned Little Green Men, UFO lore has created an entire unofficial taxonomy of extraterrestrial life.

These alleged races come from decades of reported encounters, contactee stories, conspiracy theories, and new age mythology.

None have been scientifically verified—but that has never stopped humanity from enthusiastically assigning aliens names, home planets, and occasionally very specific personality traits.

🛸 Disclaimer

A quick reality check from Planet Earth: None of these alleged extraterrestrial species has been scientifically verified, and the images in this gallery are not intended to be accurate depictions of what any supposed alien race actually looks like.

They’re simply representative images based on what turned up while searching for each one. But hey… if one of these turns out to be exactly right, I would like everyone to remember that I called it. 👽

Agarthans

Supposedly living in the legendary underground kingdom of Agartha, these mysterious humanoids are said to have advanced technology and an entire civilization hiding beneath our feet.

Basically, Earth’s secret basement neighbors.

Arcturians

Allegedly from Arcturus, these highly advanced beings are supposedly peaceful, telepathic, and deeply interested in humanity’s spiritual evolution.

Cosmic hippies with better technology.

Cassiopeans

Supposedly originating from the Cassiopeia constellation, these mysterious entities are described as highly advanced non-human intelligences communicating with humans through alleged channeling.

Apparently, space has a hotline.

Draconians

The alleged reptilian bad boys of UFO lore. Supposedly originating from the Draco system, they’re often portrayed as highly intelligent, technologically advanced, and not particularly interested in making friends.

Greys

The celebrities of alien lore. These big-headed, black-eyed humanoids are supposedly responsible for countless UFO encounters and abduction stories.

Cute? Absolutely not.

Iconic? Unfortunately, yes. 👽

Hopkinsville Goblins

These creepy little humanoids allegedly terrorized a Kentucky farmhouse in 1955, with witnesses

describing glowing-eyed creatures that kept coming back for more. Aliens, goblins, or a very weird night? Nobody ever settled that one. 👽

Little Green Men

The OG cartoon version of extraterrestrials.

Small, green, humanoid aliens have been a staple of UFO folklore for decades, even though no one has ever produced a little green body for science to examine. 👽

Nommo

Ancient aquatic beings from Dogon mythology that UFO lore later reimagined as extraterrestrial visitors from Sirius.

Depending on who’s telling the story, they were either spiritual beings—or ancient aliens with a very long commute.

Nordics

The tall, beautiful aliens of UFO lore.

Usually described as human looking, blond, blue eyed beings who supposedly visit Earth with a message of peace, enlightenment, or occasionally some very cryptic warnings.

Pleiadians

Supposedly hailing from the Pleiades star cluster, these human looking extraterrestrials are often described as beautiful, peaceful, and highly advanced. UFO lore says they’re here to guide humanity toward a better future. Cosmic life coaches, basically.

The alleged extraterrestrials from the Pleiades who supposedly contacted Swiss UFO figure Billy Meier. They’re described as human like, highly advanced, and deeply invested in teaching humanity some cosmic life lessons.

Reptilians

The alleged shape-shifting lizard people of UFO lore.

Supposedly humanoid, highly intelligent, and capable of blending in with humans, they’ve inspired everything from alien conspiracy theories to some truly wild internet rabbit holes.

Sirians

Supposedly originating from the Sirius star system, these alleged extraterrestrials are often described as highly advanced, spiritual, and sometimes aquatic or humanoid. Basically,

Sirius has apparently been busy. 👽

Tall Whites

Exactly what the name promises: allegedly extremely tall, pale humanoids said to have been encountered near U.S. military facilities.

UFO lore portrays them as technologically advanced and sometimes working with the government.

Venusians

Supposedly from Venus, these alleged extraterrestrials became famous through early UFO contactee stories, where they were often described as human-looking, peaceful, and technologically advanced.

Venus apparently had a much better PR team back then.

Whether they’re misunderstood witnesses, elaborate mythology, folklore, hoaxes, or something we haven’t figured out yet, these alleged visitors have become some of the most recognizable characters in UFO culture.

We’ve searched the skies, swapped stories, drawn pictures, and apparently decided some aliens needed their own Wikipedia pages.

Are we alone? Nobody knows. But if we’re not, hopefully they appreciate the effort we put into their portraits.
