Trump cuts staff from financial watchdog office: report

Around 40 staff members at the Office of Financial Research were told they are losing their jobs on Wednesday, according to Reuters.

The office, part of the Treasury Department and created as part of the the Dodd-Frank legislation, is tasked with identifying financial risks and stress on global financial markets.

The move was part of the administration’s larger plan to vastly reorganize the structure of the federal government, as announced in June.President Trump proposed slashing the office's budget and slashing employees last May.

The Wall Street Journal reported that cuts were expected last December.

Rand Paul Delivers Trump Letter To Putin

Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said the Kremlin has not yet examined the letter Paul presented.

“We expect that in the nearest time it will come to the presidential administration,” Peskov said, according to Russian news agencies.

Paul said on Twitter that “the letter emphasized the importance of further engagement in various areas, including countering terrorism, enhancing legislative dialogue and resuming cultural exchanges.”

However, deputy White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said the missive was a “letter of introduction” that Trump had written at Paul’s request and “mentioned topics of interest that Senator Paul wanted to discuss with President Putin.” There has been no indication that a Putin-Paul meeting would occur.

The Kentucky Republican met with members of the Russian parliament’s upper house who serve on the foreign affairs committee Monday. Paul said he had invited them to Washington.
