O, Tay-tay!

#TaylorSwift gave her Eras Tour crew an extraordinary thank you after the record breaking tour, distributing a total of $197 million in bonuses to the people who helped make the shows possible. The money went far beyond the performers on stage, reaching truck drivers, dancers, musicians, caterers, security workers, lighting and sound technicians, instrument technicians, production staff, carpenters, riggers, hair and makeup teams and many others who kept the massive production moving from city to city.

Some of the biggest individual bonuses went to the truck drivers transporting the tour's equipment. In 2023, about 50 drivers were reported to have received $100,000 each. Mike Scherkenbach, CEO of trucking company Shomotion, described the amount as life changing, explaining that many of the drivers were not homeowners and that a bonus of that size could provide the money needed for a down payment. The drivers also received handwritten letters from Swift thanking them for spending months away from their families while moving the tour across the country.

The Eras Tour eventually became one of the biggest concert tours in history, requiring what Scherkenbach described as a small city of workers to move stages, lights, instruments, costumes and equipment between venues. Swift's bonuses recognized that enormous behind the scenes effort, with the final $197 million figure covering the entire tour over roughly two years. While some reports say the bonuses helped workers pursue homeownership, the specific claim that many actually bought their first homes hasn't been independently documented. What is confirmed is that some of the people who helped build the Eras Tour received bonuses large enough to potentially change their lives.
