White House Remembers Christopher Columbus as a “Hero” – Trump Says Radical Left’s “Days of Plunder Are Over”
by Jordan Conradson Oct. 12, 2026 10:15 am1/2
President Trump and the White House recognized Christopher Columbus on Monday as a “hero.”
Trump started the celebration of Columbus Day early with a Sunday Truth Social post, blasting the American left for forcing Italians to “suffer” as they “rampaged through our cities and towns ripping down almost all of the beautiful statues of Christopher Columbus.”
“Well, those days of plunder are over, and the statues are back, more magnificent than ever. This is a big day for our great Italian American Community, and the Country of Italy itself, maybe the biggest,” he said:
HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY TO ALL, in particular our great Italian American Community which was forced to suffer as the Radical Left Dumocrats, Socialists, and Communists rampaged through our cities and towns ripping down almost all of the beautiful statues of Christopher Columbus. Well, those days of plunder are over, and the statues are back, more magnificent than ever. This is a big day for our great Italian American Community, and the Country of Italy itself, maybe the biggest. Congratulations! President DONALD J. TRUMP
The White House shared on X this morning, “In this Administration, Christopher Columbus is a hero!”
Trump also issued a strong proclamation, declaring October 12, 2026, as Columbus Day, not ‘Indigenous Peoples Day,’ and recognizing Columbus as “one of history’s greatest heroes.”
Full proclamation below:
More than five centuries ago, Christopher Columbus embarked westward across uncharted waters and discovered the New World — bringing with him the rich traditions of Western civilization and paving the way to the birth of the American Nation less than three centuries later. Today, we honor his life of valor, adventure, and ingenuity. We cherish his memory and pledge to safeguard his story. Above all, we remember with gratitude that the triumph of freedom and the glory of our Republic are the fruits of his faith and unrelenting devotion.
In August of 1492, Columbus departed the shores of Spain to chart a new trade route to Asia. With his crew of about 90 men aboard the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa María, for more than 2 grueling months, he pressed onward across the vast and unforgiving Atlantic Ocean — braving violent storms and treacherous waters. Through every trial, Columbus never wavered, holding his crew to the mission when most others would have turned back.
When Columbus and his crew made landfall on the islands of the present-day Bahamas, they first believed they had reached the shores of Asia. Instead, their voyage redrew the map of human possibility and opened a new chapter in the history of exploration. They unleashed a bold new age of discovery that expanded the horizons of knowledge, carried the splendors of the Western world across an ocean, and set in motion the forces that would culminate in the miracle of July 4, 1776. When they arrived, as a sign of devotion to God and respect to Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain, Columbus raised a mighty cross in the newly discovered land as a sign that “Your Highnesses hold this land for your own, but chiefly as a sign of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ever since, this spirit of adventure has coursed through the veins of generations of patriots — from the brave settlers who established the first colonial foothold at Jamestown to the daring pioneers who pushed westward and tamed the frontier…

Today, we reaffirm that Christopher Columbus is a legend whose vision, fortitude, and perseverance unleashed a dynamic of history that led to the creation of the greatest, freest, and most just Nation in history. We are forever indebted to his courageous voyage, and we will never allow his legacy to be erased by radical extremists. For this reason, earlier this year, I was proud to install a statue of Christopher Columbus on the White House grounds — an exact replica of the statue that stood for more than three decades in Baltimore, Maryland, from its dedication by President Ronald Reagan in October 1984 until rioters tore it down and threw it into Baltimore Harbor on July 4, 2020. Now placed at the White House, this magnificent monument stands as a testament to the resilient legacy of one of history’s greatest heroes.
Columbus Day also holds special significance for our incredible Italian-American citizens.Like Columbus, they have embodied a steadfast love of country and faith in God, and they continue to strengthen our communities and propel our country to even greater heights.
In 1892, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Columbus’ epic voyage, Pope Leo XIII published an encyclical hailing “the greatness of his mind and heart,” which “can be compared to but few in the history of humanity.” The Pope continued: Columbus “looked for a something greater and higher than did these others.” Today, as we celebrate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the New World, we honor his unrivaled greatness. We embrace our duty to prove worthy of the inheritance he left us, to match his courage with our own, and to never abandon, forsake, or forget the beauty of our faith, the glories of our culture, and the stories of our heroes.
In commemoration of Christopher Columbus’ historic voyage, the Congress, by joint resolution of April 30, 1934, and modified in 1968 (36 U.S.C. 107), as amended, has requested the President proclaim the second Monday of October of each year as “Columbus Day.”
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 12, 2026, as Columbus Day. I call upon the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities. I also direct that the flag of the United States be displayed on all public buildings on the appointed day in honor of the great Christopher Columbus and all who have contributed to building our Nation.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this seventh day of October, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-six, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fifty-first.

Judge goes scorched earth after Trump administration removes at least 430 trees from East Potomac in one weekend
By Coleman Bentley October 12, 2026
It was a busy, noisy and destructive weekend at East Potomac Golf Links, where, according to reports, work crews felled hundreds of trees on Saturday. The 105-year-old municipal course became a political lightning rod this spring when the Trump Administration wrestled control of the course away from the National Links Trust, a non-profit group that had managed East Potomac since 2020. Shortly after, the White House announced plans to convert the busiest public course in the city into an 18-hole professional complex, pushing through an estimated $20 million to $49 million renovation without congressional approval.
That set off watch dog alarms across the country, which rang again this weekend when reports surfaced that crews from the National Parks Service andVanasse Hangen Brustlin, the firm contracted by the government to carry out the renovation, had removed as many as 529 trees from the course … in a single day.
In light of the news, the D.C. Preservation Society—who sued the Trump Administration this summer in an effort to halt the rapidly advancing renovations—requested a 14-day restraining order on Monday morning. In the ensuing hearing,Judge Ana Reyes sided with the plaintiffs, going scorched earth on the government and its contractors in an exchange that reads like something out of a legal drama.
In July, Reyes ruled that work at East Potomac could continue as long as the federal government informed the court in advance about any major work at the course, including the removal of more than 10 trees at a time. At 4:55 p.m. on Friday, the government reportedly filed a notice to the court that they planned to remove 169 trees on Saturday in a heavily wooded section of the course, with another 90 to be removed at a later date.
Now it seems the original notice was a Trojan Horse used by the Trump administration to complete far more significant alterations without oversight. During Monday's hearing, a lawyer for the Trump administration acknowledged that at least 430 trees had been felled over the weekend, enraging Reyes.
"I was hearing from everybody on plaintiffs side that this was going to happen.
I said repeatedly no, I trust the government. I trusted you all NOT to do precisely what you have done,” Reyes said. “I am at a total loss to understand what has happened here, other than the government precisely intended to do precisely what it has done, which is intentionally delay letting the plaintiffs and the court know what is happening so they can put a plan in place to clear hundreds and hundreds of trees.”
Reyes ordered a work stop at East Potomac, including “routine maintenance,” until 7 a.m. Tuesday morning or until she issues another order. Reyes reportedly threatened contempt of court proceedings if the order was violated by “even two seconds” and summoned National Park Service Superintendent of the National Mall and Memorial Parks Kevin Griess to testify in the case.

The Islamic Republic of Michigan
1/3
The growing influence of Islamists linked to the Khomeinist Regime in the United States was shown on September 23, 2026, when a University of Michigan student of Iranian heritage named Iman Dashti asked Michigan’s Democratic Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed if he opposed the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).
Confronting El-Sayed with his words from earlier this year that he would not comment on the death of Regime leader Ali Khamenei because “there are a lot of people in Dearborn who are sad today,” Dashti asked him “if you renounce the people who held vigils that supported this terrorist for all the stuff that he’s done.”
El-Sayed meandered and didn’t give a direct answer, instead criticizing US foreign policy and stating he didn’t believe the US government should engage in regime change.
He didn’t address the suffering faced by Dashti’s family, who had said “my cousin was hunted in the streets of Iran by the IRGC because her hijab wasn’t on right,” (Dashti later added that his cousin’s uncle had been sentenced to death and received 50 lashes.) Instead, Dashti became the victim of an online harassment campaign, which included the publication of his personal information.
El-Sayed went on to double-down on his apologia for Tehran during a debate with his Republican opponent, Mike Rogers, on October 8. He equated the Islamic Regime to Israel, stating that “both of them have proven dangerous in their own way,” while condemning the US’s ongoing conflict with Tehran as “a war we shouldn’t be fighting, because here we are fighting this stupid war because people like him (Rogers) have been pushing for it for 20 years.”
This unwillingness even to appear to be opposed to the Khomeinist regime would have been shocking only a few years ago. The fact that El-Sayed feels he be can so frank about his opinions results from the reality that he has a voting base of Michiganders who share his views.
Brownstone ResearchThe Khomeinist-Backed Candidate
A strong case can be made that the thin margin by which Abdul El-Sayed won the Democratic Party primary on August 4 came from Muslims voters energized by Tehran-supporting clerics.
On July 31, Shi’a cleric Hassan Qazwini, head of the Islamic Institute of America, gave a Friday prayer sermon in Dearborn calling on congregants to vote for El-Sayed; “The way to deal the Zionist a bigger blow is to go and cast your vote on Tuesday, and don’t allow the Zionist candidate to win.”
El-Sayed himself had previously spoken at Qazwini’s Institute on June 6. The Qazwini family, several of whom are now serving as clerics in Michigan, are a religious dynasty from Karbala, Iraq, who relocated to Qom, Iran. Hassan Qazwini himself is a graduate of the same Qom hawzeh (seminary) where the regime leadership is educated.
Also on July 31, in Canton, Michigan, cleric Mohammad Qazwini, a relative of Hassan, gave a sermon demanding votes for El-Sayed.
Mohammad Qazwini’s congregation (named MECCA) was founded by Saleh Qazwini, another Qom seminary graduate who has been recorded uttering statements repeating Khomenist conspiracy theories. Mohammad Qazwini himself has been filmed celebrating the death of Senator Lindsay Graham and asking his congregation to pray that God strikes down President Trump.
On August 3, cleric Husham Al-Husayni gave a sermon in Dearborn endorsing El-Sayed and telling congregants to send a message to “Zionist lowlifes.”
El-Sayed himself was at the mosque, and claimed there that the reason Michiganders don’t have adequate social services is because the US government spends money fighting Muslims overseas. In 2022, Husham Al-Husayni had said “Thank God we have the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
On June 23, Hojatoleslam Mohammad Ali Elahi told his Dearborn congregation that it was a religious obligation to vote for El-Sayed, in order to stop “this war against Iran.”
Hojatoleslam Elahi participated in the Islamic Revolution of 1979 and served as the Director of the Iranian Navy’s Political-Ideological Department beginning in 1982. Elahi afterwards worked as head of research and documentation for the Martyrs Foundation and was on the editorial board of the English-language newspaper Tehran Times.
According to a 1993 report from the US Institute for Peace, he came to the US in 1991 in order “to inspect American branches of Hizbullah.” In 2018, he praised the regime’s ideology of Guardianship of the Jurist as being superior to the American presidency.

2/3
In 2025, Elahi was photographed meeting President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the United Nations, while in 2026, he received press coverage for holding a mourning ceremony after Khamenei’s death.
Elahi continued to campaign for El-Sayed after the primary victory. On September 4, he gave another sermon in which he appeared to connect El-Sayed’s election to the survival of the Islamic Republic.
A Growing Community
Michigan’s Muslims are heavily clustered in the Metro Detroit area. Their presence is most notable in the cities of Dearborn and Hamtramck.A growing Muslim population has also brought with it a use of the political system to enforce Islamic norms.
For example, in 2004, the Hamtramck city council allowed mosques to broadcast the call to prayer from loudspeakers, and in 2023 it allowed halal animal slaughter – a practice some animal rights activities consider cruelty.
From Qom to Detroit
Many of Michigan’s Muslims are Twelver Shi’as. When discussing Shi’a Islam, it is important to note that the Shi’a clergy are an organized hierarchy, akin to that of the Roman Catholic Church.
Thus, it is easy for the Khomeinist elite to introduce clerics into American society simply through the pattern of immigrants building a mosque and asking Shi’a authorities to send them a prayer leader.
The largest mosque in the USA, Dearborn’s Islamic Center of America, is Shi’a. Hassan Qazwini was the prayer leader of this mosque until leaving in 2015.
The next imam, Ibrahim Kazerooni spent years delivered sermons lauding the Islamic Regime before achieving some notoriety in January 2020 after holding a vigil to mourn Qassem Soleimani. Weeks later, he endorsed revenge operations against American soldiers.
Consumer Trail
Another cleric spouting Khomeinist rhetoric is Haj Hassanain Rajabali. On June 15, 2026, he spoke at Hojetoleslam Elahi’s mosque, and claimed that the (Jewish) Rothschild family has controlled the world since the XVIIIth century. This conspiracy theory was mentioned by Ruhollah Khomeini in the first chapter of his Islamic Government.
In 2015, Sheikh Usama Abdulghani – an African-American convert to Islam who spent decades studying in Qom – established the Hadi Institute in Dearborn.
This institute contains a school, publishing company, and a service called the Light of Guidance. On Light of Guidance’s YouTube channel, one can watch Sheikh Abdulghani’s Moharram lecture dedicated to Ali Khamenei or his commemoration of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Hadi Publications, meanwhile, has printed a children’s book praising the Palestinian intifada entitled “The Echo of Stones”.
When the Twelve-Day War began in June 2025, Abdulghani told his followers to “trust our leadership” while another Hadi Institute representative described Khamenei as the “leader of the resistance” and going to on explain “they are speaking about attempting to kill our beloved (Khamenei), are we just going to sit back idly…we have a role to play.”
Tarek Bazzi, another of Abdulghani’s deputies, led a public demonstration in 2024 praising “Imam” Khomeini, shouting “Death to America” and calling for the annihilation of Israel.

Political Implications
==With a polarized electorate in a ‘swing state,” the Muslim vote is of extreme importance. Thus, instead of investigating these clerics, local politicians have embraced them.
Hojatoleslam Elahi gave an invocation at the second-term inauguration of Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2023, and his mosque was visited by then-Vice President Kamala Harris in 2021.==
Michigan Muslims gravitated toward voting for Democrats, and formed an alignment with the “anti-imperialist” left. Thus, in 2018, Rashida Tlaib was elected to Congress representing Dearborn. Abdul El-Sayed is following her path.
As they’ve gained in power, however, Michigan Muslims’ views have begun to differ from those of most Democrats. In 2022, Muslim groups advocated for banning teaching LGBT in public schools. In 2023, the now all-Muslim Hamtramck city council banned public display of gay pride flags. Liberal LGBT groups who had helped Muslim politicians later stated they felt betrayed.
After the Gaza conflict began, due to their anger over what they perceived as former President Joe Biden’s support for Israel, many Michigan Muslims refused to vote for Kamala Harris, thus helping Donald Trump return to the White House. This sent a message to Party leaders: you can’t win without us.
For Iranians, these developments bring back painful memories.
The Alliance of the Red and the Black – and the Fate of the Left
The Islamic Revolution in Iran was won by a coalition of Islamists and Leftists. This coalition did not emerge by accident. While clerics could bring crowds from the mosques into the streets, they did not have the skills of modern political organizing.
Likewise, the left had the skills to launch a successful international propaganda campaign, and build guerilla warfare units in Iranian cities, but their intellectual base was too small to form a mass movement. Only by working together could the clerics and the left achieve their shared goal of overthrowing the Shah.
The intellectual left had assumed that clerics, unable to manage a modern state, would defer to their abilities, but instead Khomeini quickly inaugurated his vision of Islamic law and leftists were either executed, imprisoned, or exiled.
For decades, the Iranian Diaspora has been telling the West that what happened in Iran could occur to them too. Today’s Michigan is a vivid example of what can happen when warnings are ignored.
How should U.S. candidates respond

Central Paris mayor Ariel Weil posted on X that the market was “ravaged by flames” and was “totally devastated,” despite the fire department working “with strength and efficiency.”
Weil told Le Monde that firefighters allowed the fire to burn in the center of the market to protect nearby buildings.
According to The New York Times, the fire did not harm other buildings or cause serious injuries. The outlet said the cause of the fire was not clear.
“An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire,” Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire wrote on X, adding that 150 firefighters were mobilized to fight the fire.
“The Marché des Enfants Rouges burning down is a piece of Paris’s history going up in smoke,” Grégoire wrote. “The City will support all the merchants and residents impacted by the terrible fire that occurred last night.”

Per The New York Times, the market is the oldest covered food market in Paris.
It was named for children who were orphaned and cared for at a hospital close by who wore red(Les Enfants Rouges means “the red children” in French) at the end of the 1700s, per the city of Paris’s website.
The market had a buzzy, lively atmosphere, according to Condé Nast Traveler.
Its independently run stalls featured cuisines from around the world, and the market was a popular site for food shopping for locals and tourists alike, per the outlet.
Booths included cuisines ranging from Creole-Cameroonian to Moroccan, Lebanese, French, Japanese, Italian and more, with cheesemongers, butchers and other suppliers adding to the mix, per the city of Paris’ website.
After the market became run-down and closed in the 1990s and was under consideration to be turned into a parking lot, vendors and residents initiated a sit-in to save it, leading to renovations, per the website.
The website added that the culinary character of the market then developed in the 2000s, as more vendors entered.
Crêpe stall owner Lucien said, per the website, that the food stalls were the “best way forward” for the market.
“Our clientele is made up of locals and people who work in the neighborhood, but it’s mostly tourists: we welcome people from all over the world,” he said, according to the website.
The popular market was designated as a historical monument in 1982, the website says.
