In order to understand the actions of the Israel (Mossad, IDF etc), regardless of positive or negative inclinations, one needs to understand the essence of this little tid bit.

Then couple this with an understanding of the modern founding of Israel (i.e. out of the ashes of the Holocaust) - and understand there is an 80 year legacy of survival at any cost.
