BBC licence fee to be extended with ‘YouTube tax’ to force more to pay

The government is set to unveil plans to extend the BBC licence fee to online streaming services in what is unofficially being dubbed a “YouTube tax”.

A white paper on the BBC charter renewal will be published before Christmas and will include proposals on how to overhaul the current license fee.

The BBC thinks it's going to get license fee payments for watching YouTube. I understand the fee when the BBC are producing the content but they don't own YT or Netflix and Disney and they want to tax you for viewing other companies content?

YT is a better public service than the BBC ever was.

I would argue that YT is a better public service than the BBC full stop.
