In reality, most kept quiet and their heads down, avoided conversations about the truth, and did not resist. Many were just plain ignorant but most were intimidated and still are as of today which is why no one tells the truth because the truth has no advantage, just dirt on your grave. Instinctively everyone knows this, and takes the safe route with the excuse that they have a family, don't see it, or not their concern. I even had cops tell me, I am only one person, and I have a wife and kids, would love to help you but… as they turn a blind eye to murder.

And that is something I just cannot understand. These criminals will just keep working towards your demise to cut your life short anyways, why fear them? You should fear standing down to them, because that is sure death.

Part of the problem with standing down is that it invites more recruits because people will change to the perceived winning side for it's benefits and rewards than stand for virtue and pay a price. So in affect, it just becomes a never ending struggle of whack-a-mole.

It is called identifying with the aggressor. They do it, to avoid harm, reap the benefits, and as a survival mechanism. The bully always has the most friends, until someone knocks him out. Then the bully learns his place in life, loses his following, avoids you all together, and makes sure never to piss you off again. The bully will then go out of his way, to try and be your friend, as a source of power. And in fact, it does change his attitude and behavior to a certain degree because now they become leery of another one standing up to them, further decreasing their status.
