The Billionaire Couple Quietly Spending Millions To "Reinvent" The Democrat Party
A billionaire hedge fund couple is dumping millions into a high-stakes effort to push the Democratic Party away from its increasingly radical left flank and challenge its entrenched leadership.
Steve and Sue Mandel, wealthy Democrat donors from Greenwich, Connecticut, have committed at least $20 million to a network of political groups aimed at elevating more moderate candidates, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal.
Their operation includes at least three organizations designed to confront the party's existing power structure and potentially reshape Democratic politics ahead of the 2028 presidential election. At the center is Majority Democrats, which is working to boost candidates who can appeal beyond the party's progressive base.
Another group, The Bench, focuses on identifying and backing rising political talent, while the Searchlight Institute is crafting more centrist policy ideas in hopes of making Democrats competitive again nationally.
The couple is taking an unusually hands-on role, closely tracking campaigns and working with Seth London, a seasoned Democrat consulanted who served a stint in the Obama White House as Legislative Assistant and Associate Director. The billionaire couple's effort has already drawn additional funding from political and media power players, including former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and James Murdoch, according to the Journal.
The effort underscores growing frustration among some deep-pocketed Democratic donors who argue the party has lost touch with ordinary voters and desperately needs an overhaul. Rather than demanding ideological purity, the Mandel-backed groups are prioritizing candidates with strong personal stories and proven ability to win elections.
However, as the Journal points out, the Mandels' political investments have not always paid off:
During this year's Senate race in Michigan, it threw its support behind Mallory McMorrow, a telegenic state senator and self-described "pragmatist" who had been a client of Smith's.
McMorrow dropped out less than a month before the primary, and Abdul El-Sayed, from the party's left, won. Democrats who didn't support El-Sayed traded blame. Proponents of The Bench criticized Washington groups for helping the other moderate candidate, Haley Stevens.
A former Stevens adviser had the opposite takeaway: The Bench had made the race more costly and complicated.
Addtionally, critics on the far left were quick to dismiss the effort.
"The Mandels' approach represents the same Democratic establishment with some new seasoning on top," said Usamah Andrabi, spokesman for the far-left Justice Democrats, told the Journal. "That's simply not what the party's voters are looking for right now."

$270 Million In Suspicious Student Aid Fraud Flagged By Treasury
The Department of the Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) has discovered roughly $270 million in suspicious financial activity likely associated with student aid program fraud.
FinCEN issued an alert in July asking financial institutions to report suspicious activities linked to student aid fraud.
A review of submitted reports identified more than 20,000 potentially suspicious transactions since February this year. FinCEN has reported approximately $270 million in suspected fraud to federal investigators for further investigation, the Treasury said in an Oct. 19 statement.
"Federal student aid is intended to expand educational opportunities, not line the pockets of fraudsters who steal from students pursuing their education and hardworking taxpayers," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in the statement.
"Treasury is working with financial institutions and law enforcement to identify these fraud schemes, recover stolen funds, and hold those responsible accountable."
The department said it was working with the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, headed by Vice President JD Vance, and encouraging whistleblowers to report fraud-related information.
In an example of educational fraud, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced last month that a Detroit man was sentenced to 92 months in federal prison for fraud schemes, including one that targeted federal student aid programs.
The man and others submitted fraudulent student aid claims for more than 1,200 individuals, collecting more than $10 million before being caught, the DOJ said. The fraud spanned 100 schools across more than 20 states.
In March, the DOJ said a former professor admitted to stealing government funds through a scam involving fraudulent student financial aid applications. More than 100 such false applications were filed across several universities and colleges in Texas.
Education Aid Schemes
The Treasury detailed some of the federal student aid fraud schemes in its statement. For instance, "ghost student" schemes involve criminals stealing an individual's personal information and using it to enroll as a student in classes. The victim often never realizes that a third party is collecting student aid in their name.
In "straw student" schemes, fraudsters pay real people to enroll in classes and collect financial aid in their names. In some cases, corrupt school employees may be part of these schemes.
"Student aid fraud has real consequences for students and American taxpayers. It drains finite grant resources from deserving students, potentially prevents legitimate students from enrolling in classes occupied by fraudulent enrollees, and can leave identity theft victims responsible for debts they never incurred," the Treasury said.

On November 20, 2000, Nahman Shai, then public-affairs coordinator of the Barak Government, released in a meeting with the press, a 60 page document titled “Palestinian Authority non-compliance… A record of bad faith and misconduct”,
The document, informally referred to as the “White Book”, was prepared by Barak’s aid, Danny Yatom.(2) According to the “White Book”, Arafat’s present crime – “orchestrating the Intifada”, is just the last in a long chain of proofs that he has never deserted the “option of violence and ‘struggle'”.
“As early as Arafat’s own speech on the White House lawn, on September 13, 1993, there were indications that for him, the D.O.P. [declaration of principles] did not necessarily signify an end to the conflict. He did not, at any point, relinquish his uniform, symbolic of his status as a revolutionary commander” (Section 2). This uniform, incidentally, is the only ‘indication’ that the report cites, of Arafat’s hidden intentions, on that occasion.
A large section of the document is devoted to establishing Arafat’s “ambivalence and compliance” regarding terror.
“In March 1997 there was once again more than a hint of a ‘Green Light’ from Arafat to the Hamas, prior to the bombing in Tel Aviv… This is implicit in the statement made by a Hamas-affiliated member of Arafat’s Cabinet, Imad Faluji, to an American paper (Miami Herald, April 5, 1997).”
No further hints are provided regarding how this links Arafat to that bombing, but this is the “green light to terror” theme which the Military Intelligence (Ama”n) has been promoting since 1997, when its anti-Oslo line was consolidated. This theme was since repeated again and again by military circles, and eventually became the mantra of Israeli propaganda – Arafat is still a terrorist and is personally responsible for the acts of all groups, from Hamas and the Islamic Jihad to Hizbollah.

Denver Archbishop James Golka has banned one of America’s best-known traditional Catholic exorcists from public speaking and interviews for a year.
The Archdiocese of Denver announced Sunday that Golka met with Father Chad Ripperger to discuss his ministry and his religious community, the Society of the Most Sorrowful Mother. The archdiocese calls the ban a one-year “fast” from public speaking and interviews.
“The time will allow him to devote himself to the Society and to the people it serves.”— Archdiocese of Denver
Ripperger “agreed,” Golka stated. The archbishop and priest will review the yearlong ban after one year.
Denver offered no public account of what prompted Golka’s request. Its statement did not identify any alleged misconduct, call the move disciplinary, or say whether the pause changes Ripperger’s other priestly work. But its immediate effect is plain: a priest whose talks and interviews have reached millions will be absent from public platforms for a year.
Ripperger founded the Society of the Most Sorrowful Mother in 2012. The community centers its work on spiritual warfare and traditional Catholic liturgy, the National Catholic Register reported.
The Register reported that he has canceled several scheduled appearances, including a LifeSiteNews gala planned for April 2027.
The faithful received a yearlong public silence from a priest known for confronting spiritual warfare — and no public reason why.

Britain's Labour government is allowing thousands of migrants to secure de facto permanent residency every week by delaying promised immigration restrictions. Many are entered Britain as part of the Boriswave, a mass influx engineered by the former Conservative government following the COVID-19 pandemic.
More than 200,000 legal migrants have reportedly received indefinite leave to remain (ILR) despite tougher settlement requirements being promised last year. Around 5,000 migrants are reportedly securing permanent settlement every week under existing arrangements, even as government ministers debate extending the standard qualifying period from five to ten years.The Conservatives created the conditions for the surge in settlement by dramatically relaxing controls on legal immigration, disregarding their repeated pledges to substantially reduce it. Labour, despite promising to tighten the rules, has failed to implement reforms that could prevent hundreds of thousands of Boriswave arrivals from becoming de facto permanent residents.

Mississippi AG Says Police Killing of One Year Old Kohen Wiley "Was Justified"
The police department responsible for the death of the infant has a known history of excessive force and racial abuses.
How can any sensible human being with a beating heart bring themselves to say that shooting and killing a one-year-old baby is in any way justifiable? Apparently as far as the state of Mississippi is concerned, it is.
Earlier this summer, officers of the Senatobia Police Department responding to a call of suspected shoplifting opened fire on a vehicle occupied by two adults and one infant. Two occupants suffered gunshot wounds, with a one year old boy, identified as Kohen Wiley, dying from his injuries and his mother suffering non life threatening wounds that required hospitalization.
The shooting sparked outrage in the community and across the country, with protesters demanding justice for the slain infant. Justice, it seems, that will not come.
According to a statement released by the office of Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch on Monday:
Today, the Office of the Attorney General announced it has completed the review of a June 14, 2026 incident in Senatobia involving one officer with the Senatobia Police Department. In this incident, the Attorney General’s Office found the use of force was justified. Pursuant to Section 45-1-6 of the Mississippi Code, the review followed an investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
The City of Senatobia would also release the following statement,
The Mississippi Attorney General’s Office has concluded its review of the June 14, 2026, officer-involved shooting in Senatobia, finding the use of force justified and declining prosecution. The state’s criminal case is now closed.
The City of Senatobia continues to extend its deepest sympathy to Kohen Wiley’s family and all those affected by this tragedy.
The shooting took place on June 14th of this year, in the parking lot of a Walmart in Tate County, Mississippi, about 40 miles south of Memphis, Tennessee. As The Free Thought Project reported at the time, at approximately 2:00 PM officers of the Senatobia Police Department and Tate County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a potential shoplifter. Whereupon their arrival, reports allege the officers witnessed two women, the young boy's mother Vellesiya Wiley, and Latoya Ferrell, carrying a package of diapers and one year old Kohen Wiley to their vehicle.
A statement from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation at the time alleges that as the vehicle fled the scene it swerved towards officers, prompting them to discharge their weapon. This claim, however, remains unverified. In the months since the shooting video footage of the incident either in the form of police body camera footage, or surveillance footage from the parking lot, has yet to be released to the public.
