In the late '80's -1987 ish I knew a radio ham who used the packet-radio system to send and receive computer files via short wave radio. Computers were fairly simple then (Amiga and Atari and basic word processors ).There was no public internet then - probably just experimental academic networks like JANET but even then Radio Hams were exchanging data as computer files.
