No, in my experience notifications only work on tweets (even though this was technically a tweet, it was categorized as a reply, presumably because it had a link to LG's handle as the first thing).

I'm guessing this is why so many people put a period in front of their tweets, to prevent twitter from treating it as a reply and suppressing notifications.
