At a time when the nation is being divided along every axis imaginable, the ABSOLUTE RED LINE culturally is our civic symbols. If we allow the liberals to tear those down in the minds and hearts of the population, then nothing remains to unite us as a people, and all is lost. POTUS wisely recognizes this and is willing to die on this hill for that reason.
Spoiler alert: He didn't die, he took the hill, and is pushing to take more.
