there's a story related to it.

A prep football coach has been placed on leave after a video circulated showing players beating a teammate in the squad’s locker room.

Mobile County schools spokeswoman Rena Philips confirmed to the media that the Alabama school system took action against Davidson High School coach Fred Riley. The measure will take effect immediately.

Nine players have been suspended after the video circulated showing a then-freshman quarterback, Rodney Kim Jr., being beaten in April in what his parents describe as a “hazing attack.” More importantly, a $12 million lawsuit was filed against the perpetrators of the alleged hazing.

The video shows various players all taking turns beating another player already down on the floor.

The video has more than half a million views on YouTube alone.

The police were called after the incident, where the complaint specified that an assault was involved.

Kim, Jr. suffered a broken arm as a result of the beating. The young player’s mother, Mary Kim, said that while she felt “elated” about the coach being placed on leave, she is still urging school officials and the authorities to suspend and arrest Riley.

The mother said: “The truth is finally coming out.”

Some reactions on social media expressed beliefs that the players should be suspended and charged, too, for their participation in the savage hazing. Others say they are embarrassed by the actions of the players who appear to be mostly black.

The school has not discussed yet any planned further actions against the coach in question. Riley has also not commented on him being placed on leave. He told local media last month, however, that despite the controversy and a possible case against him, he intends to keep coaching.

Riley reasoned then:“I enjoy what I’m doing. I love the young guns. I like being around them, and as long as Mrs. Riley will let me keep coaching, I’ll keep coaching.”

The team started fall practice on Monday.

It is not clear what the school policy was on hazing even before the video came out, and the controversy erupted.
