Here's my take.
The missile that was launched a month or so ago from a sub. Q got the location of the sub. But you cant just put a fighter jet into service without a threat. So white hats fly a remote controlled airplane close to the location of the sub. Then it looks like the Jet takes off after the out of control airplane, but instead eliminates the rogue sub.

I dont think there was anyone on the plane. In the article Q linked. it says the man multiply times but does not state his name, unless i missed it. Plus if he wanted to commit suicide y would he circle an island multiple times. Looks like the plane circled multiply times till the fighter jet could get there, then flew off leading the Jet, unassumingly toward the actual intended target.
