Pennsylvania became a safe haven for Catholic refugees from Maryland. William Penn had been harassed as a Quaker, and he enacted a broad grant of religious toleration and civil rights to all who believed in God, regardless of their particular denomination. The threat of war between England and France brought about renewed suspicions against Catholics. However, the Quaker government in Pennsylvania refused to be coerced into violating its traditional policies.

John Adams attended a Catholic Mass in Philadelphia one day in 1774. He praised the sermon for teaching civic duty, and enjoyed the music, but ridiculed the rituals engaged in by the parishioners.[10] In 1788, John Jay urged the New York Legislature to require office-holders to renounce the pope and foreign authorities "in all matters ecclesiastical as well as civil," which included both the Catholic and the Anglican churches.[11]

After being a Pentecostal Christian until my mid twenties, growing up in a "church family" which meant church on Wednesday, twice on Sunday, sometimes on Saturday and all week long during Revivals… and of course after a chance happening, a coincidence, I started studying religion.

Allow me to tell a story of one man's trash and one man's treasure…

The childhood home of a life long family friend as well as the entire city block was being demolished and he told me that if I needed any old doors or windows etc etc to come and take them before the demolition crew was scheduled to knock them all down the following days.

I ended up in the house next door and found myself in what must have been the "library" and on the floor strewn everywhere lay hundreds perhaps 1000's of books.

A particular 2 volume set stood out and that was the "creeds and myths of all nations" yet once I grabbed this compilation directly underneath lay an old copy of "The Secret Doctrine" by H.P. Blavatsky.

She led me back to my Bible and on to the Quran, to the Talmud, to the Bhagavad Gita, the Egyptian book of the dead and to so much more…

There is no Bill Cooper or other that even comes close and once a person understands the level that Blavatsky was on, no Bill Cooper or other even stands a chance!

Of course all "good men of faith" hated her and of course all "good men of science" hated her even more so no surprise that in the minds of modern theologians she is relegated to the likes of a witch or a charlatan at best!

Also of noteworthy shame is the fact that anything a NAZI touched became evil much like the transformation of the Swastika, a symbol of luck and good fortune since perhaps the dawning of time, resembling the swirling motion of matter and the entire universe et al.. down into a symbol of violence and hatred etc etc…

A woman, 120+ years ago who traveled the world gathering as much knowledge as she could then took on both modern religion and modern science!

Catholicism is a ROMAN STATE RELIGION and was hardly shared by the ruling elite and lo and behold 1600+ years later and the elite still serve some "other" master it seems…

The world had their Messiahs, Saviors and Christs prior to modern Christianity and if people today wish to find the archetype of their Christ they should look not to Egypt but to India and the far east and to the tales of Buddha and Krishna as there is little doubt that Zoroastrianism, Hinduism and Buddhism are the wellsprings from whence the VERY MODERN and VERY NEW AGE religions known as Judaism, Catholicism and Christianity sprang from.

If anyone would like to know more about the man known as Jesus who was one with the spirit of the Christ… look no further then to the cult known as the Nazarenes and also to the Essenes of Dead Sea Scroll fame.

Modern Judaism is a combination of the belief system of the Pharisee, the Saducee, the Nazarene and the Essene and so much more…

Today, modern Christians/Catholics are completely miffed that someone like myself who thoroughly enjoys at least SOME of the SUPPOSED words of the person known as Jesus the Christ can also believe that some of those words were put into his mouth and that he did not die for our sins etc etc but was simply one in a long line of a brotherhood and sisterhood who believed that a spirit resides within us all albeit usually latent and passive until properly activated which is when that person becomes one with the Christ Spirit which I relate to the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost of Christian theology and to Krishna Consciousness.

Two primary qualities indicate such a person and they are

STOICISM = the lack of the fear of death or Faith

AND

ALTRUISM = the desire to help humanity or Charity

There are other aspects such as Clarity and Wisdom yet we will leave these for another time.

After reading all of what most new agers would consider "devilish" religions I find myself wanton to believe that I am one with Christ/Krishna consciousness and I believe that I chose the highest path of the many ways to "God" and that is the path of Renunciation.

Like the Dalai Lama and the Phoenix…

Although this move might help some priests overcome the sexual repression which most certainly plays a part in the psychology of abuse.

Based upon the evidence provided by the Vatican' history of repeated past failures when attempting reforms of this nature only to see further and widespread abuses continue to occur.

This action would not seem to be enough to prevent further abuse and that the culture of abuse is so ingrained in the clergy that nothing short of a purge, internal reform and a restructuring of the authority vested in the church is necessary to truly prevent the possibility of further abuse.

The news articles and informative videos posted in this thread is merely a small fraction of what could be posted and with only this amount of information any sane and reasonable person should conclude that the Vatican has failed repeatedly at internal reform.

It is as if they are repeat offenders unable to stop their transgressions, virtually begging for an intervention from outside of the Vatican power structure.

All of this begs the questions:

Why would United States police officers of the Law sworn to uphold our Constitution, to protect and to serve WE THE PEOPLE… defer or refer a crime to church "authorities" instead of enforcing our laws?

How could they ever believe that not prosecuting crimes and not protecting american citizens is anything but unconstitutional and Criminal?

The Initiative on Catholic Social Thought and Public Life brought together a theologian, a journalist and parishioner, a leader in past efforts to address sexual abuse, and an abuse survivor for a major Dialogue on what the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has called a “moral catastrophe.” The discussion focused on two key challenges:

• How can lay women and men provide leadership in this time of crisis? How can shock, anger, and revulsion become commitment, resolve, and action to protect young people, dismantle destructive clericalism, and build a culture and structures of accountability and genuine community?

• How can Catholic teachings help assess the damage and offer a path to accountability, reform, and renewal?
