The E4 disappeared, but was in a wide right turn to the south before it vanished. C-17 seems to be continuing in the same general direction.
In this case, it likely has to do with reception. Data is exchanged via ground based transmitters, so if an incomplete data package arrives, you don't get a full plot. The E-4 went out to sea and there are very limited receivers out there. That's all.
