LOL; didn't read Genesis, I see? In order to understand this, you have to take cynicism to the next level. Not just "Haha; that was a funny joke from a cynic POV". No; I mean real cynicism. Like, 'lost faith in all of humanity' type of cynicism. The type of cynicism that puts you at such a higher level than anyone else that it makes pride look like a well-deserved compliment.
Look, if you are unfamiliar with Mark Pellegrino's adaptation (or, at least, his adaptation of the writer's interpretation of the character of Lucifer from the "Supernatural" storyline), then I suggest you start with Season 1 of Supernatural, and watch the entire thing up to the most recent episode.
It really is spot on. If you want to get inside the head of the devil, this is your front row seat. The writers of that show did an excellent job. Criminally underrated, if you ask me.
