Bombardier Q400

I wonder whether the choice of plane was sending another POTUS related message in addition to the Q400 aspect of the model?

More specifically the manufacturer Bombardier, a Canadian aerospace/transport company.

Cast you mind back to Dec 2017 and POTUS was accused of siding with Boeing over Bombardier over a dispute relating to the Canadian government unfairly subsidising Bombardier production and dumping jets on the US market.

> Bombardier criticized the U.S. decision as out of touch, citing the Canadian planemaker’s plan to team up with European Airbus to launch assembly of the CSeries from a production line in Mobile, Alabama, making it a domestic product for U.S. buyers.

So you’ve got a Canadian jet manufacturer working with EU company Airbus and dumping jets cheaply on the US market.
