Most all the place names on Whidbey are at least 50+ years old. In the 1920's and 1930's a string of forts was built across North Puget Sound. Fort Casey and Fort Ebey on Whidbey for example and the Naval Air Station at Oak Harbor. A lot of roads are named after admirals and other naval things.
