One of the applications of LENR is elemental transmutation. Mitsubishi and a few other companies already hold patents on it.
Basically, it is technology that converts the dangerous radioactive elements in spent fuel rods into harmless other elements on the periodic table.
Normies might ask why the world isn't busy cleaning up all those spent fuel rods. Answer is,
1) Too many actors view the spent fuel rods as a resource from which weapons can be made later (or simply sold for cash/gold);
2) the same elemental transmutation tech can turn (for example) the steel reinforcement beams in a building, or the hull of a naval ship, into a crumbling mess that breaks apart like a piece of chalk… a big threat to buildings and ships everywhere.

The sick thing is, they could use this to clean up Fukushima, but they don't because the radioactive waste is just such a useful thing to hold the world hostage with.
it's true, Cold Fusion / LENR research has its roots in medieval alchemy. Even one of Queen Elizabeth I's alchemists was noticing effects in the laboratory which are now recognized as LENR. He just didn't have the scientific framework for explaining what he was seeing.
