Elon Musk says the Chicago tunnel project could start construction in ‘three to four months’

Passengers might also be able to get pre-cleared for airport security

Construction on the Boring Company’s newly announced underground transit link between downtown Chicago and O’Hare International Airport could start in just three to four months, Elon Musk said today. During a joint press conference with Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Boring Company CEO said that the only thing that would slow the project are the pending “regulatory and environmental approvals.”

Will Elon Musk Become the Mole King of Chicago?

Who needs a Sausage King of Chicago when you can have a Mole King reigning over the tunnels beneath the Windy City? Well, that’s exactly what Elon Musk is aiming to be thanks to a gigantic contract The Boring Company won from the city of Chicago.

According to The Chicago Tribune, last week Mayor Rahm Emanuel selected Musk’s Twitter joke-turned-tunneling venture to provide high-speed transportation between downtown Chicago and O’Hare International Airport. While The Boring Company’s technology is still unproven in the mass marketplace, the Chicago contract represents the greatest opportunity to date for The Boring Company to demonstrate its viability on a massive scale. The deal could be worth as much as $16 billion, according to Alexander Haissl, an analyst at Berenberg, as reported by Business Insider.

If Obama Couldn't Find A Single Shovel Ready Project How's Elon Musk Got Verbal Approval?

It has to be said that this little story about Elon Musk and his Hyperloop idea has a certain amusement to it. Sure, it's a great piece of salesmanship and publicity but beyond that there's ever such a tiny bit of concern about the whole and entire veracity of what is being said. You know, just the tiniest bit of wondering at what did he just say?

The reason being that President Obama at one point had hundreds of billions of dollars ready to go on infrastructure projects but when he started looking around he could find nary a one ready to roll. For permission to actually build something doesn't work like this in the America of today. Thus this looks, umm, odd:
