In 2015, the first fistula surgery kits were released by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) containing Ethicon sutures. As a result of the sutures being donated, the kits were offered at a reduced rate of $300 per kit versus the original $500 price. These kits were provided by partners such as AmeriCares, Direct Relief and Mercy Ships. In 2015, sutures supported approximately 6,300 fistula surgeries across all the partners."
