Was the true purpose of the foundation of the Church of Satan to give "ownership" of the word "satanism" to a non-deistic philosophy? Because of the Church of Satan, people are able to say, "Oh, Satanism has nothing to do with worshiping Satan or ritual sacrifice or anything like that."
Anyone who tries to research it will end up reading about Anton LaVey and think that that's all there is to it.
