The Vatuvara Island Resort Fiji Review

With 333 inhabited archipelagos, many of which are deserted, it is not uncommon for a multimillionaire to grab one for his own use and turn it into a resort. It was Malcolm Forbes who was known for his Laucala party, his huge land mass in the Lau Group, which is now run by Red Bull CEO Dietrich Mateschitz and open to all.

Fiji's untouched Wakaya Island is owned by David Gilmour, a resident of Canada who launched Fiji water and welcomed tourists as a Wakaya Club & Spa. Following a five-year trial, his Vatuvara resort, known as Vatuvara, was opened on the 324 hectare island of Kaibu. They are greeted by Rob and Lynda Miller, who Jannard has rented from Wakaya.

The next is a pretty rough 4x4 drive on a winding trail with some biting S-curves on the island's precipitous hill to the three new mansions. Jannard's most eye-catching mansion is his own, the 400 square metre Delana, a mixture of traditionally Fiji thatched roof with a largely gray rock and modern furnishings.

It' s like a fort, cold and closed, partly city, partly island, with a modern offices on one side and a spas room with Jacuzzi and Jacuzzi on the other, as well as a diving platform for nature-lovers. Featuring a selection of delicious seafood and Lynda Miller's bio garden, these food options range from ashimi and ceviche, to barbecue chops, wood-fired pizzas, paella and more, all cossetted.

In fact, these people are as catchy as the designs or the view - typically hot in the Fiji way. All the good parts, they are singing a vivid interpretation of the long awaited goodbye hymn "Isa Lei", which will accompany you long after the Twin Otter have left the country.
