Perhaps the most prominent member of the Russell family in the 20th century was Bertrand (Lord) Russell. His impact on contemporary mathematics and anglo-american (analytic) philosophy can hrdly be overestimated. Further, he championed many progressive social/political issues.

I've been of the opinion for some time that the direction in which he pushed philosophy served certain cabal goals (primarily his helping to completely remove any consideration of the human condition from discussions of rationality in the mainstream of philosophy).
