the magnitude of an earthquake is determined by the energy released at the epicenter. which was 354 miles deep. so there was a 7.9 earthquake 354 miles below ground. by the time that energy makes its way to the surface there isnt much shaky shaky left in the seismic waves. i may have exaggerated but it wouldn't have been significant on the surface.
