I was sitting arm's length from John Schneider last winter when he played a gig at the Fontanel Resort in Nashville. The property used to belong to Barbara Mandrell, but she sold it all.
Anyway, was an old friend of the manager of another artist performing, so we'd been catching up. He'd booked the artists for the TV show being recorded, including Schneider. Another artist had already completed her segment of the show with no re-takes. Schneider walks in late, and obviously drunk. I was sitting at the bar, and he strolls up right next to me and orders a Jack & Coke with a floater of more Jack. My old friend sees this and is PISSED because he hasn't done his segment of the show yet. Schneider's manager is this normal-looking middle aged woman, and I can see the frustration on her face, because the woman is essentially babysitting a 40-something year old child. Made eye contact with her, and she just looked like "yeah, same shit as every other day". Schneider took his drink on the stage with him (help me, Jesus) and his miserable manager/babysitter has to go take it away from him before taping. Somehow, miraculously, they get his segment taped with several retakes, and then after he was done, he got another drink and was outside sitting on a bench, talking to a bunch of (stupid) women who'd gathered around to see one of the Duke Boys.
Schneider is an aging party boy. He thinks he's still purty, but up close, you can see the liquor all over his face. I bet he has a HARD time getting bookings, because if you're just a mess when you show up enough times, they stop calling.
I can't believe he's linked to that Children's Miracle Network! Lord have mercy, hahaha, and I bet you $20 that Maven Entertainment thing they own hasn't turned a profit.
Have a pic of the Fontanel thing, but afraid to post and dox myself. At least Rhonda Vincent and Mac McAnally were there, and were both total professionals, genuinely talented and fantastic enough to make up for Schneider. They're true musicians, and he's not.
