I've dug into this before deeply. When my first children were born it was a big thing and tons of companies were offering the service. Less than 2 years later all mention of it had practically disappeared yet in hospitals when the women delivers the after birth/placenta the medical personal rush it out of there immediately. they say 'because it's medical waste' but if you dig you'll find they are selling it and it's likely being used for harvesting that cord blood. Also remember that that they clamp the umbilical cord on both sides before allowing dad or them to cut it so that not a drop drips out of the majority of the cord and the placenta itself.
