You have to re-apply for clearance every so often.
One of the most important things that is taken into consideration when you re-apply: Your financial situation. How vulnerable are you to being bribed or blackmailed? Can you renew a previously obtained clearance if you've failed to pay every bill in your name on time and kept your credit score at a higher than average level? maybe - not likely.
It's not a gift from the government to make money. It opens doors, sure. Yet you have some serious obligations.
