Yes, they were very sad you see!
God promised man a savior right afte the fall of man:
Genesis 3:14 and 15
And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
In battle terms, bruising a heel is normally not a fatal blow, just a wound.
However, a blow to the head can be fatal. Jesus Christ is going to deliver that final blow to the head of the devil.
The devil tried to destroy Jesus Christ by having him crucified not knowing the great mystery (which was revealed by Paul in Ephesians) and not know that God would resurrect him unto eternal life, thereby defeating death for all of mankind.
Now all he can do is try and persuade you of all kinds of lies about God and His word and His Son, in the hopes that you don't believe and get born again and saved.
I believe all the things that we have been experiencing were all a plan of the devil to try and keep us away from THE TRUTH of God's Word. Then he wanted to purposely bring about destruction and mayhem upon the earth thereby provoking God into bringing His Son Jesus Christ to "gather together" the born again ones. This would then bring about the revelation of the antichrist and the devils reign of 1k years. That is all he has to look forward to afterall.
However, God stepped in and prevented that. Stopped it in it's tracks just at the crucial time (Rev 12, 9/23/17).
Now we have truth being poured out and by the will of God, more poeple awakening to the truth. This is crucial to happen prior to the gathering together. So that the will of God is fulfilled:
I Timothy 2:1-6 KJV
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and [for] all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this [is] good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
5 For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
When is that due time? God says that it will be when the "fullness of time" has some. Perhaps it is when God's perfect will is accomplished - that all men be saved and come unto the knowledge of the truth.
