I use Linux. When the board slows down, I just assume its due to a DDOS, that it will eventually subside, and just go on about my business.
Recently, Linux has been hitting me with one security update or another just about daily. So just assume that Q was correct when he noted that we are at war.
That's a lot of assumptions, but what you are describing is better attributed to a server that can't deliver than a local system that can't resolve.
One thing I DO find helpful is limiting contact with Gateway Pundit. SOMETHING on that site chews through clock cycles like crazy. Yesterday, after trying to move the cursor for 45 minutes, I finally had to admit defeat and do a hard reboot.
I can have as many as 10 or 15 tabs open without noticeable degradation so long as none of them are GP. It's gotten so I only open it for a peek to see if they have anything compelling on the front page. If they do, I read the one or two interesting articles and then shut it down.
