Lucifer -

The Hebrew word, transliterated as Hรชlรชl [9] or Heylel (pron. as Hay-LALE),[10] occurs once in the Hebrew Bible [9] and according to the KJV-based Strong's Concordance means "shining one, light-bearer".[10] The Septuagint renders ื”ึตื™ืœึตืœ in Greek as แผ™ฯ‰ฯƒฯ†ฯŒฯฮฟฯ‚ [11][12][13][14][15] (heลsphoros),[16][17][18] a name, literally "bringer of dawn", for the morning star.[19]

According to both Christian [20] and Jewish exegesis, in the Book of Isaiah, chapter 14, the King of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar II, conqueror of Jerusalem, is condemned in a prophetic vision by the prophet Isaiah and is called the "Morning Star" (planet Venus).[21][22] In this chapter the Hebrew text says ื”ึตื™ืœึตืœ ื‘ึถึผืŸ-ืฉึธืื—ึทืจ (Helel ben Shachar, "shining one, son of the morning").[23] "Helel ben Shahar" may refer to the Morning Star, but the text in Isaiah 14 gives no indication that Helel was a star or planet.[24][25]

Later Christian tradition came to use the Latin word for "morning star", lucifer, as the proper name ("Lucifer") of the Devil as he was before his fall.[26] As a result, "Lucifer has become a byword for Satan or the Devil in the church and in popular literature",[4] as in Dante Alighieri's Inferno, Joost van den Vondel's Lucifer, and John Milton's Paradise Lost.[18] However, unlike the English word, the Latin word was not used exclusively in this way and was applied to others also, including Jesus.[27] The image of a morning star fallen from the sky is generally believed among scholars to have a parallel in Canaanite mythology.[28]

After being raised Christian, moving away from it, and now trying to get back into it, J can get into reading Christ's words, but all the recreations that try to get me to empathize with "don't you understand how emotional all of this was" turn me off. Christian media, in my opinion, fails to convey how wonderful being a moral person feels, how powerful faith is. The camera and actors run it. You can't fake real love for God, I don't think.

I try not to insult anyone, or wish them harm, but if you accidentally fell into a fire I would probably hesitate before pulling you it. I would still save you, but damn would it be difficult. You are that annoying.

I've been lightly digging into the Catholic/Protestant schism and the results have been illuminating, although I don't want to go into detail about what I found as it is a touchy subject open to individual interpretation. I've learned a lot the last few days.
