Nixonian neo-con. The laws on the books are so bad, they can’t be enforced by anyone who believes in freedom. Right now, if one friend calls up another friend and asks him to bring up a few ounces of marijuana across state lines in exchange for money, they’re facing a mandatory minimum 10 years in prison!!! 5 years for the weed. 5 for conspiracy. Rule of law, my ass.
Of course, this isn’t a typical prosecution. What it does is open the door for the deep state. The deep state can (and does) harass this person (legally & otherwise). More than 98% of federal drug suspects never even get a trial because the laws are so insane! People get threatened with absurd sentences and are forced to cut deals. This is completely un-American! ALL Americans deserve a trial by jury as stated in the fucking Constitution. Marijuana remains the 2nd most common reason people are in federal prison (behind immigration violations). The drug war is racket that empowers the deep state.
You can’t be a “rule of law” guy because they laws don’t reflect the will of the American people. 90% of Americans think medical marijuana should be legal. Most think it should be legal recreationally. After all, we believe in freedom, right? The government shouldn’t be making our choices for us and throwing people in prison for huge sentences if they disagree.
Sessions said “no good people smoke marijuana” and he’s arresting people in DC for possession of marijuana (like the DOJ doesn’t have bigger priorities). Combine that with these for-profit prisons and my faith in Sessions is diminished. Feels more like the rebirth of Nixon rather than The Great Awakening.
Maybe Sessions is doing a good job building cases against the Cabal. Maybe he’s not. He’s certainly not inspiring trust with his words and actions.
