I don't think its necessarily true that socialists are power hungry.
It's just human nature that most people don't like it when the govt takes your money and stuff.
So the socialists invariably have to do it by force.
And then when the inevitable shortages occur, more muscle is needed to maintain order.
At some point they decide a purge of non-believers is necessary.
Ergo Socialism->Communism->Genocide
