Just a theory.

1. Cohen and Davis are friends…before this. They run in same circles which we knew. Trump himself was NY mover shaker, putting him in close contact with plenty of them.

2. Davis and Alan Dershowitz are friends. Same reason. Davis and Dershowitz can have lunch, go golfing etc without raising eyebrow. Dershowitz is now recruited to Trump (ish) team, though most peopke forget. Gives backdoor from WH to Cohen in private.

C. Lanny is now sort of occupied, therefore unavailable for defense fir others marginally connected…as in…(((them)))

Same reason (hope) thatMueller snapped up tons of Clinton associate lawyers for his team.
