Cohen Willing To Tell Mueller About Trump's "Conspiracy To Collude" With Russia

If there was any doubt whether Michael Cohen had flipped, despite statements that he was not cooperating with the government as part of his guilty plea and refusing to name the "candidate" who instructed him to violate campaign finance law, that was promptly dissolved in the following hours when Cohen's lawyer, Lanny Davis said that his client has "knowledge" about computer hacking and collusion, and is willing to speak with Special Counsel Robert Mueller about a "conspiracy to collude" with Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Cohen, who pleaded guilty on Tuesday to helping President Trump pay hush money to two women, wants to tell Mueller that Trump knew of an infamous 2016 meeting at Trump Tower and the Russian hacking of Democratic institutions before they took place, Davis told MSNBC, deciding that any "attorney client" privilege in this case is strictly optional.

"Mr. Cohen has knowledge on certain subjects that should be of interest to the special counsel and is more than happy to tell the special counsel all that he knows," Davis told MSNBC on Tuesday.

"Not just about the obvious possibility of a conspiracy to collude and corrupt the American democracy system in the 2016 election, which the Trump Tower meeting was all about, but also knowledge about the computer crime of hacking and whether or not Mr. Trump knew ahead of time about that crime and even cheered it on.”

Trump accuses Michael Cohen of 'making up stories' to get a 'deal'

Donald Trump accused his former attorney Michael Cohen of "making up stories to get a deal,” after the lawyer pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations and promised to give evidence against the President.

In a series of tweets on Wednesday, Trump blasted Cohen and praised his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who was found guilty on eight out of 18 counts of tax and bank fraud on Tuesday.

"I feel very badly for Paul Manafort and his wonderful family," Trump tweeted. “‘Justice’ took a 12 year old tax case, among other things, applied tremendous pressure on him and, unlike Michael Cohen, he refused to ‘break’ - make up stories in order to get a ‘deal.’ Such respect for a brave man!”

300 migrants storm Spanish exclave of Ceuta, attack police with acid (VIDEO)

Seven police officers suffered acid and lime burns as more than 100 sub-Saharan migrants jumped the border fence that separates Morocco from Spain's north African exclave of Ceuta.

Approximately 300 people tried to enter European territory by storming the fence on Tuesday night. Press reports state that as many as 200 were successful, however officials in the autonomous city say they have only accounted for 115 new arrivals

The migrants cut part of the, 8.4km-long (5.2 mile) fence and used battery acid, quicklime and excrement to attack police officers, El Pais reports. The police revealed on Twitter that seven members of the force suffered injuries during the incident.

Because of vacations, the border was manned by fewer than 10 agents when the migrants chose to storm the fence. Numbers were also reduced because it was the first day of the Eid al-Adha Muslim festival. The Unified Association of the Civil Guard (AUGC) police representative group has long been critical of the shortage of officers manning the border.

Putin: US establishment behind ‘senseless’ Russian sanctions, meeting with Trump ‘useful’

The position of US establishment is to blame for the counter-productive policy of sanctions against Russia, President Vladimir Putin said while describing his Helsinki meeting with President Donald Trump as “useful.”

“It’s not only about the position of the US President. It’s about the position of the so-called establishment, which is ruling [the US] in a broadest sense of the word,” Putin said.

Putin was responding to a question about his July meeting with Trump at a joint briefing with the Finnish President Sauli Niinistö near Sochi on Wednesday.

As for our meeting with President Trump, I have a positive assessment of it and think that it was useful,” Putin said.

Calling the sanctions “counterproductive and senseless, especially regarding such country like Russia,” Putin added that he hopes “that the realization that this policy doesn’t have a future will someday come to our American partners and we’ll begin to cooperate in a normal manner.”

Putin said that he and Trump exchanged positions on the most pressing issues to each other in Finnish capital, adding that “an exchange of views, direct conversation is always very useful.”

“No one was expecting that during the two-hour talks it would be possible to resolve all of the issues that have been controversial until now,” he added.

As for Russia’s relations with Europe, Putin expressed hope that “something positive will be done for the sake of restoring normal Russia-EU relations” during the second part of 2019 when it will be Finland’s turn to head the European Union.

The Russian president said that his talks with Niinistö were “constructive,” while the Finnish leader was more poetic in his choice of words and described the Sochi meeting as “sunny.”

The two leaders agreed to boost cooperation in environmental protection and discussed the settlement of the Syrian and Ukrainian conflicts. Putin backed Niinistö’s proposal to increase flight safety over the Baltics and expressed commitment to working together with Helsinki in order to bolster security and stability in northern Europe.

He also called Russia “the definitive supplier of gas” to Europe, adding that the country was ready for fair competition in the area.

Former Clinton Pollster: Hillary Clinton Broke Campaign Finance Laws, Not Donald Trump

Mark Penn, the former pollster for both Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, has penned an op-ed in The Hill Wednesday in which he argues that Michael Cohen’s guilty plea shows the double standard that prosecutors have applied unfairly to Donald Trump.

Penn argues that while what Trump is alleged to have done — paying Stormy Daniels for a non-disclosure agreement she had sought for five years prior to the election — was legal, Hillary Clinton failed to report campaign expenditures that led to the Steele dossier.

If anyone broke campaign finance law, Penn argues, it was Clinton, not Trump — but prosecutors want Trump out of office.

He writes:

The usual procedures here would be for the FEC to investigate complaints and sort through these murky laws to determine if these kinds of payments are personal in nature or more properly classified as campaign expenditures. And, on the Daniels payment that was made and reimbursed by Trump, it is again a question of whether that was made for personal reasons (especially since they have been trying since 2011 to obtain agreement). Just because it would be helpful to the campaign does not convert it to a campaign expenditure. Think of a candidate with bad teeth who had dental work done to look better for the campaign; his campaign still could not pay for it because it’s a personal expenditure.

Contrast what is going on here with the treatment of the millions of dollars paid to a Democratic law firm which, in turn, paid out money to political research firm Fusion GPS and British ex-spy Christopher Steele without listing them on any campaign expenditure form — despite crystal-clear laws and regulations that the ultimate beneficiaries of the funds must be listed. This rule was even tightened recently. There is no question that hiring spies to do opposition research in Russia is a campaign expenditure, and yet, no prosecutorial raids have been sprung on the law firm, Fusion GPS or Steele. Reason: It does not “get” Trump.

Cohen’s lawyer launches GoFundMe to help pay his legal fees

Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to eight federal charges on Tuesday. The same day, his attorney launched an online fundraiser, pleading for the public’s assistance to help pay his client’s legal fees.

What happened in court?

President Donald Trump’s former attorney struck a deal with federal authorities, pleading guilty to five counts of tax evasion, and one count each of bank fraud, making an excessive campaign contribution and causing an unlawful corporate contribution.

Speaking to the court, Cohen reportedly admitted to the charges against him.

“I participated in this conduct, which on my part took place in Manhattan, for the principal purpose of influencing the [2016] election,” Cohen said.

Cohen’s attorney is Lanny Davis, former White House special counsel to President Bill Clinton. After Tuesday’s hearing, Davis said in a statement: “Michael Cohen took this step today so that his family can move on to the next chapter.

“This is Michael fulfilling his promise made on July 2nd to put his family and country first and tell the truth about Donald Trump. Today, he stood up and testified under oath that Donald Trump directed him to commit a crime by making payments to two women for the principal purpose of influencing an election. If those payment were a crime for Michael Cohen, then why wouldn’t they be a crime for Donald Trump?”

How’s the fundraising going?

The GoFundMe campaign — dubbed the “Michael Cohen Truth Fund” — had raised roughly $40,000 of its $500,000 goal by noon ET on Wednesday.

Davis appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and the “Today” show on Wednesday morning to promote his efforts, and ask viewers to kick in some dough for his client.

“In order to get Michael to be able to help, we need help on this fund, MichaelCohenTruthFund.com, we ask everybody to help Michael Cohen tell the truth about Donald Trump,” Davis told “Morning Joe.”

The Michael Cohen Truth Fund reads: “On July 2, 2018, Michael Cohen declared his independence from Donald Trump and his commitment to tell the truth.

“On August 21, Michael Cohen made the decision to take legal responsibility and to continue his commitment to tell the truth.

Texts From Asia Argento Contradict Her Claim She Didn’t Have Sex With Minor, Report Suggests

On Wednesday, TMZ published a series of texts allegedly between actress Asia Argento and one of her friends indicating that Argento did indeed have sex with her former costar Jimmy Bennett when she was 37 and he was 17.

On Sunday, The New York Times reported that Argento, a major figure in the #MeToo movement who had accused Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein of raping her at the Cannes Film Festival when she was 21, had reportedly paid $380,000 to Bennett, who claimed she sexually assaulted him in a California hotel room when he was 17. Bennett sent a letter of intent to sue Argento that claimed that Argento had kissed him, removed his pants and performed oral sex on him, then had sex with him.

After the Times report, detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department started investigating the $380,000 payment.

On Tuesday, Argento denied having sex with Bennett, suggesting that Bennett had extorted Argento and her late-boyfriend, famed chef Anthony Bourdain. Argento claims the $380,000 payment was Bourdain's idea.

But TMZ published texts that seemingly counter Argento’s narrative. In one text Argento admits, “I had sex with him it felt weird. I didn't know he was a minor until the shakedown letter.” In another text she allegedly wrote, "It wasn't raped but I was frozen. He was on top of me. After, he told me I had been his sexual fantasy since was 12.”

In the state of California, it is considered statutory rape if an adult has sex with someone under the age of 18, regardless of whether the act was consensual or whether the minor initiated the act.

Former leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) Nigel Farage has long campaigned for Britain to leave the European Union, and is now fighting off an attempt which could see the UK remain in the trading bloc.

Nigel Farage once again expressed his opposition to a second Brexit referendum on Tuesday, saying it would be “the Soros vote” not the people’s vote.

He said the British electorate has already indicated it wants to leave the EU, via the 2016 referendum, suggesting a fresh vote would be counterproductive.

"You can argue all you want for your People's Vote by the way, we had the people's vote. It's not the people's vote, it is the George Soros vote is how I would put it,” Farage, who continues to serve as an MEP after standing down as UKIP leader, said on LBC’s radio show.

Brits took to Twitter to voice their opinions, with some agreeing with Farage, while others insisted that a second vote is the most democratic option.

BlacKkKlansman, renowned director Spike Lee's latest work, may be the latest example of this mephitic phenomenon. The film tells the tale of Ron Stallworth (played by John David Washington), the first African-American Officer and Detective in the Colorado Springs Police Department, who conducted several undercover operations from the latter half of the 1970s onwards.

Most famously, he infiltrated infamous white supremacist movement the Ku Klux Klan. In 1979, Stallworth saw a ‘wanted' ad in the local paper seeking to recruits for a new KKK chapter of the Ku Klux Klan opening in the city.

He called the phone number provided, posing as a racist white man who hated "blacks, Jews, Mexicans, Asians" — over the course of the conversation, he learned the individual founding the chapter was a soldier at nearby Fort Carson. Stallworth arranged to meet the man at a local bar, and sent a white undercover officer, wired to record any conversations, in his place.

President found to have broken FEC finance laws. Over 1300 violations, gets one of the largest fines on record

President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign was fined $375,000 by the Federal Election Commission for campaign reporting violations — one of the largest fees ever levied against a presidential campaign, POLITICO has learned.

The fine — laid out in detail in FEC documents that have yet to be made public — arose from an audit of the campaign, which was published in April. POLITICO obtained a copy of the conciliation agreement detailing the fine, which was sent to Sean Cairncross, the chief lawyer for the Republican National Committee, one of the groups that filed complaints about the campaign’s FEC reporting from 2008.

“$375,000 is a huge fine,” said Republican election lawyer Jason Torchinsky. “It may one of their top five- or 10-largest fines.”

But he added, “They’re also the first billion-dollar presidential campaign. Proportionally, it’s not out of line.”

FEC officials declined to comment on the fee or the existence of the agreement. But for context, failed Republican presidential nominee Bob Dole set a record for FEC fines on his 1996 campaign when he paid $100,000 two years later.

At the time of the Deegan murder, Greco had moved to Florida with his wife and children. Greco passed eight separate polygraph tests stating that he was in Florida at the time of the Deegan murder. Mrs. Greco testified that her husband was with her in Florida. Yet Barboza — the real killer — and the FBI convinced a jury that Mr. Greco was in the alley and participated in the Deegan murder. Mr. Greco died in prison in 1995.

Author of Trump-Russia dossier wins libel case in US court

Suit against Christopher Steele by three Russian oligarchs thrown out by judge

The former MI6 officer Christopher Steele has won a legal battle in the United States against three Russian oligarchs who sued him over allegations made in his dossier about the Trump campaign and its links with Moscow.

The oligarchs – Mikhail Fridman, Petr Aven and German Khan – claimed that Steele and his intelligence firm, Orbis, defamed them in the dossier, which was leaked and published in early 2017. The Russians own stakes in Moscow-based Alfa Bank. All are billionaires.

On Monday, a judge in the District of Columbia, Anthony C Epstein, upheld a motion by Steele to have the oligarchs’ case thrown out. Epstein did not determine whether the dossier – which Donald Trump has repeatedly dismissed as “fake” – was “accurate or not accurate”.

But the judge concluded that it was covered by the US first amendment, which protects free speech. He ruled that the oligarchs had failed to prove a key part of their case: that Steele knew that some information in the dossier was inaccurate, and had acted “with reckless disregard as to its falsity”.

The ruling is a piece of good news for Steele, who has maintained silence in the face of a mountain of abuse from Trump and his enraged supporters. This month, the president called Steele a “lowlife” on Twitter and described the dossier as “phony”, “discredited” and paid for by “Crooked Hillary”.
